A little bout me I'm an oldschool pioneer of the art of turntablism a solid mix artist with an ear for whats dope currently I'm working with the band Jamnesia and do 4 turntable sets with Dj Drastic. I've been djing since the early 80's have seen a lot of groups come and go. I remember when a lot of artists came with their first albums. I dig in the crates for abstract loops and am working on a instrumental album. I am a dj's dj not just the average bumpmix dj. I still stick closely to the artform as most dedicated spinners thanks for checking me out. I also would be interested in hearing from anyone who would like to spit over some of the tracks I will be putting on my space or just general comments suggestions or whatever peace. As an accomplished disc spinner, Phazo has paid his dues, making him able to please any crowd and genre. Phazo is known for his "Live Mix" tapes that combine raw hip-hop, hard drum and bass lines sprayed with phat break beats and a touch of jazz. All he needs is two turntables and his unique blend of mixing and skills to set it off.Phazo has diverse taste in music, which gives him dynamic sound & style like his mentors Marvin Gaye, Lonnie Liston Smith, Bob James, War, DJ Premier, DJ Pete Rock, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Ahmad Jamal, Joe Sample, Prince and Quincy Jones.Raised in Columbus, Ohio, Phazo found his love for djing at a middle school performance in the early 80's when he emceed a talent show. He heard a DJ mix "Planet Rock" with Kraftwerk and found him self asking "How did they do that?" Thus began his passionate 25 year long quest to become the perfectionist on the ones and twos that he is today.Phazo's journey over the years includes his own 'drive time' radio show on cable station CTNT along with becoming a part of WCKX's kiss it or diss it radio show in 1991. Producing music for HQH posse at Diamond Mine Studios, Phazo toured in 1991 with ill artists such as X-Clan and Digital Underground at Poppa Jack's in Columbus, Cleveland and Detroit. In 1994 Phazo came across DJ Drastic while Drastic was working at the Groove Shack Record Store. The two gifted DJ's quickly became close friends and mentors; together they took over the Skankland nightclub as resident DJ's. His next experience of fame came when he opened for Redman at Newport Music Hall in 1996 with Da Intallec. Locally, he made a guest appearance on the Megahurtz debut 12" "World Premier."Phazo met Don Carlos in the late nineties. Their musical career started with a performance at Snaps and Taps, First Fridays with the Charles Cooper Quartet. This lead to Phazo becoming a part of the Ill Atmospherics band with Don Carlos in 2001.Phazo has competed in many battles throughout the year including the one most vivid in his mind, the brothers helping brothers hip-hop expo in 1999. Here Phazo came in a close second to his young voice and strongest competitor, Drastic. To complete the year of 1999 Phazo produced and arranged his first mixed cd, Subsurface I under the Real Nice Recordings Record Label, then unleashed Subsurface II as a follow up.Coming into the new millenium Phazo celebrated his 25th anniversary of djing at the 501 Jazz Bar with a guest performance by Drastic. Currently, Phazo plays monthly at the 501 Jazz Bar with Ill Atmospherics.Phazo also shows his love and loyalty for his crew through performing at Real Nice Recording's stomping grounds the Hey Hey, and RNR's weekly venue, Wednesday nights at the High Five. Here he and Drastic perform a four-turntable symphony, feeding off and vibing off each other to become one DJ.Phazo continues to produce music and build his endless extensive library of loops and beats. His upcoming cd is entitled Phantom Bliss, and is due to be released fall of 2003. For upcoming releases, residencies or press on Phazo check out our web pages or email him at
