About Kid Magic: HOW IT STARTED... In the beginning I always had dreamed of becoming a world famous DJ and having my mixtapes heard all over the world. Needless to say, back in '82 that was a very difficult task. There were no bootleggers selling mixtapes on the corner during those times. The only mixtapes available were the ones that filtered down from New York. Basically, Ron G's mixtapes. I used to give my mixtapes away, for free, just so people could here me (side note: I still do that sometime for the love of Hip Hop). TIME TO EXPAND... As my skills became better and my rep grew larger, I wanted people to see me perform live. I did numerous counts of house parties and DJ'd various clubs and bars in, and around, Columbus. In '86, I hooked up with a four man DJ group called "The 4 Ultimate DJ's". The group included legendary DJ's, such as, Dj Caz who is the founder/owner of Big Daddy Sounds. Also, DJ Top Notch (Mike Reynolds) who is a famous club DJ in Baltimore, MD. Last, but definately not least, DJ Poni, who still does mixtapes til this very day. Together our love for hip hop made magic. MOVE TO N.Y... In '87, I flew to New York and got a less than official record deal with Bill Kamaro of B-Boy Records in the Bronx. Which, in most cases with bogus record deals, nothing came out of that, except that I met my man Anthony Rasson. Anthony and I became cool and he later became the manger of D-Nice of Boogie Down Productions and Craig G of the Juice Crew. He was also managing an up and coming group called The UMC's out of Staten Island. That set it up for me to do the scratches on their album entitled "Fruits of Nature" which drop the singles "Blue Cheese" and "One to Grow On". I was able to show my scratching skills on the song entitled "One to Grow On" from their LP. That was where I was able to showcase my skills, if you listen I was the one cutting up "hey".
TO THE PRESENT AND FUTURE... In '96, I stopped making mixtapes and concentrated on opening up my own studio. I've been doing that every since. I have worked with many numerous local and surrounding acts within Ohio. Here's a list of just a few of the artist that I have worked with: One Hood Productions, Architects, 40 Drop, RUSH, Live Live Ent., Torture Soul Records, BDS Records, Mideast Beast, Push Up Boys, Gangsta Black, Ruggar, Omni Breed, Hard Hat Productions, MB INC, G-Boys - Cheddar Cheese, Blade Ent., Black House - Gye-Nyame and many, many more.... I have currently done some production work on One Hood's album, "One Hood Vol 1: Welcome to One Hood" which is currently creating an underground buzz. To anyone I have failed to mention above, you know I've got nothing but love for you.
