JoE CooL was born in Queens, New York. A few years later he and his mother moved to Fayette, Alabama, a small town outside of Birmingham. He then moved to the city of Indianapolis, Indiana. It was here that JoE CooL learned the ways of the streets, and how to finagle and deal in a poverty stricken environment.
In 1994, after being released from an Indiana juvenile facility, JoE CooL moved back to Fayette, Alabama. This proved to be almost fatal to the young JoE CooL who had acquired a taste for the street life, and took that appetite with him back to Alabama.
The name JoE CooL was given to him by family and friends when he returned to Alabama, because of his cool demeanor, and inability to panic or fold under pressure, describing what at times could be an ice cold person. His lust for the streets proved to be unacceptable in the small town and landed him in prison with a bid of ten years in 1996, of which he was to serve a third in order to complete the sentence.
Always in love with music, it was here that he was finally able to concentrate on honing his skills, battling rappers all across Alabama's prison system, being labeled victorious at each prison he went to. Three years and eight prisons later, he was released back to the streets, and left Alabama to return back to Indianapolis, Indiana in August 1999 where he hooked up with old connections and began hustling again. He still continued to write after being released, having made a habit out of it while incarcerated.
Finally, after being jail free for three consecutive years, he decided in 2002, to return to school, and attend college. Though he was still knee deep in the street life he couldn't break free from, he was making a positive step towards change.
Upon acceptance to Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis, he began learning about computers, web design, film/television production, music production, and new creative ways to use his distinct rhyme patterns. He made a big decision to turn down a record deal with Columbia in 2005 to finish college.
Currently, he has graduated from IUPUI with a Bachelor's degree in New Media, and an Associates degree in Music Business & Music Technology, with hopes of getting signed and starting his own label. He currently designs web sites for aspiring models and music artists, as well he is making films and videos.
Taking trips back and forth from Indianapolis to his hometown of Queens, New York has re-inspired the Jamaica Queens Native. He still writes nearly everyday, and is still a freestyle artist to be reckoned with, but it is his written lyrics that possess the most potent venom.
He is currently working with B. Stille from the platinum selling group Nappy Roots as a studio engineer in promotion of their new record company and feature group 'Break Bread Squad'!
