Anya Aprille Dixon is a singer/songwriter/musician/producer from Columbia, South Carolina. Music is her life. From the piano lessons that began at the age of three, to playing and singing in churches, school bands, orchestras, choirs, and jazz bands, she craved the joys that music bring.
It was her involvement in church that propelled Anya to grow as a musician. She learned to play the piano by ear after being asked to play in church for special programs and on Youth Sundays. This led to an awakening of her artistic and musical talents. At the age of five, she wrote her first song entitled "I Like Myself," and during elementary school she added the violin to her repertoire. In fifth grade, she was selected as scriptwriter, songwriter, and musician to create an original opera that her class performed. She soon added the flute and xylophone to her credits, playing on the marching and concert bands. At the same time, her skills on the piano and violin allowed her to be a member of her high school's concert and gospel choirs, concertmistress for the chamber and string ensembles, and jazz bands. Her talents landed her membership in the Richland District One Middle and High School Honors Orchestra and Chorus, the South Carolina All-State Orchestra for three consecutive years, and an alternate for the prestigious South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts. During her senior year, she was proud to be named top pianist in the state and was a member of the distinguished South Carolina All-State Jazz Band. She is the proud recipient of several other school-given awards and honors and music.
Anya's college years began at the University of South Carolina where she studied for one year majoring in Jazz Studies before transferring to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where she dual majored in Music Business and Music Production and Engineering (MP&E). While at Berklee, Anya was a member of The Berklee Reverence Gospel Choir, Ministers of Music, and president of Phi Beta Co-ed Fraternity for the Creative and Performing Arts. She holds a diploma in Recording Engineering from the Audio Institute of America in San Francisco. In 2005, Anya enrolled as a music major at Columbia International University where she was founder and director of the University's Gospel Choir. Anya is now a student at the historic Allen University where she is a member of the University Chorale and is studying under the leadership of Grammy award winner Dr. Gregory Mcpherson. She is also Minister of Music at Red Hill Baptist Church and the youth choir director at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, both in Gadsden, SC. As director at Red Hill, she led the youth choir to win third place in the Youth/College Choir Competition in Atlanta, Georgia two years consecutively.
Anya is a talented musician who constantly studies to perfect her talents. Her musical influences are Duke Ellington, Donny Hathaway, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Smokie Norful, and Richard Smallwood. With her love of jazz and the Lord, Anya is focused on music that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. She is at her best when performing for an audience. There is no such thing as "stage fright.'' She has participated in several talent shows and performed at various functions of differing calibers including directing the 600-member South Carolina Baptist Congress Youth Choir. In June 2006, she wrote, produced, and released her first CD, "New Life," in addition to writing and producing for other local artists. Anya has had the honor of opening for major recording artists including Helen Baylor, Alvin Darlin, J. Moss, and 21:03. She is most proud of her recording studio, which she established to write, produce and record under her record label, All "A" Music Productions, LLC. Her motto is "Music is life. Life is good."
