They Say...
'I have reviewed thousands of bands over the years and in that time only a handful have really stood out from the crowd. Project Saturn are one of that elite few. A spacey, dub infused pop trio, they do everything right. Strong musicianship, great live shows, memorable hooks….they tick all the boxes including the one marked ‘X factor’. I still find it hard to believe that charismatic vocalist/guitarist Dave Wood only started singing a few short months before the recording of their debut CD ‘the Wye River sessions’ in 2005. There is a maturity in his voice that parallels his confidence as a guitarist. His many and varied guitar tones create a sonic palette that stretches way beyond what you would expect from a trio. The rhythmn section of bassist Phil Bertino and drummer Andrew Lewis is similarly confident. No wonder they have played so many shows in such a comparatively short amount of time. Now they’ve released their second CD, a self titled effort that sees remixes enter the equation – The Police had better watch out because there just doesn’t seem to be anyone else out there doing the spacey, dub infused, hook laden trio thing anywhere near as good as this. It’s as close to faultless as you’re likely to get, and what’s more it’s engaging. It’s one thing to have great playing, quite another to write such memorable and confident music. I keep humming ‘Fire in the House’ and I can’t imagine too many people could resist the charms of this EP. If there’s any justice Project Saturn will be well and truly LARGE...'

'Here's a band that you can fall in love with at first listen. Hooks that stick and a sound the latest "it" contenders can't touch. Live or disc they are new fav's and worthy of plenty of attention. I want to dedicate a whole show to these guys!

What....
Project Saturn was established in 2004 in the rural settlement of Little
River....before being redeployed to the Southern Hemispheric metropolis of Melbourne.......
Project Saturn’s indefinable qualities, make it near impossible to accurately describe what the project is, it must be experienced to be understood. A multitude of tools have been utilized during the projects duration, the primary being ‘Alternative’ ,‘Dub’ and ‘Reggae’.
Their latest specimen ‘Project Saturn’ (EP) concluded in March 2007 at Woodstock Laboratory in Melbourne with Chief Scientist and acclaimed Producer/Engineer Robin Mai (Credited with the deployment of projects from other teams including the John Butler Trio, Blue King Brown and the Black Sorrows)
Live experiments have been conducted throughout the city of Melbourne at most major venues, with several successful regional expeditions also accomplished, in the aim of creating awareness of Project Saturn throughout the state.
Project Saturn has thus far been compatible with several other major operations within the Australian ‘roots/reggae’ realm including Blue King Brown, Bomba, and The Red Eyes. In addition to this, major convention appearances including Queenscliff Music Festival and Apollo Bay Music Festival have assisted with the development of a growing supporter base for the project.
The full potential of Project Saturn has yet to be realized. Preliminary research suggests the project is the only one of its kind in Australia, thrusting Project Saturn into an unknown landscape devoid of precedent, but giving the project limitless boundaries. In 2007, armed with their new self-titled artillery, all efforts will be accelerated and directed towards the initial priority of creating national awareness of the project’s existence. Providing the project runs to scope, the benefits will be accessible and embraced by all Australians..… from there who knows….
A full East Coast tour is planned for later in the year, bringing the unique sounds to NSW + QLD for the first time. Keep an eye on the upcoming shows section for more details or visit www.projectsaturnmusic.com.
