THE UNDATKA BIO:I knew I wanted to be an Emcee at 10-years old after the first time I saw the video to “I Ain’t No Joke†by Eric B and Rakim. Rakim’s self-assured and dominant demeanor caught my attention as his lyrics and unstoppable flow was ahead of his time. Other Emcee influences are KRS-One, Busta Rhymes, Redman, LL Cool J, and Scarface. As a side hustle, I was the featured rapper at the local comedy club All Jokes a Side. I would freestyle rap about members of the audience for 100 dollars a night, similar to the commentary done by the comedians. I broke my proverbial “cherry†at the Hip Hop Shop’s open mic every Saturday in1994, ran by Eminem and D-12. This was the first freestyle where I met and was defeated by the infamous Proof. As a pivotal moment, it was then Undataka was born and the motive to annihilate any Emcee I face will inevitably end with their burial. As with any good soldier, I had to prepare for war so I took a short pilgrimage to the Mecca of hip hop, New York City. During my stay I endured the culture and the sound as I embodied the music in its purist form. I entered into a contest called “The City of Dreams†held at The Tunnel hosted by Pilot, Lin Que and Craig G. It was there I had the distinct honor of meeting Big Daddy Kane who gave me the advice “that if you’re a sweet Emcee you’ll spend other people money...†This journey revisited my unbridled love and the true meaning of hip hop as I couldn’t wait to take it home. When I returned to Detroit, I eagerly awaited a rematch with the person who theoretically ran me away from the mic. Empowered with new definition and veracity I defeated him and all others in my path. I became the most re-known battle rapper in the area and held this reign for around 5 years. Shortly after, the industry evolved and creating songs was the norm as battle rapping became tenure of the past. In a realm cluttered with carbon copies, I have been described as having an unparalleled flow due to my depiction of the world, the hood and relationships. I strongly believe that lyrical skills are still the essential tool needed for Pioneer Emcee’s. It is in my precise delivery that exemplifies my ability and love for the music Being the mint on the tongue of an industry that has lost the taste and flavor of its uniqueness and individuality is where my hunger derives to become the greatest.
