Current Projects(RJP) Refugee Justice Project, currently works on a number of different projects, including legislative advocacy, community education around Sentenced Home, convening the community group Khmer in Action (KIA), and providing national and local support for families affected by detention and deportation. Legislatively, RJP works to restore due process by giving immigration judges discretion to waive deportation for factors like ties to the community, rehabilitation, age when the infraction was committed, hardship to dependents, and others—all factors that judges cannot currently consider. We also bring together communities at screenings of Sentenced Home to educate them about the consequences of the 1996 laws and involve them in advocacy. KIA brings adult and young Cambodians together to effect social change, political influence, youth empowerment, mentoring, and tutoring. Finally, RJP acts as a support network for Cambodian and other families and communities that are affected by detention and deportation.
