About Me

In 2001,Mauricio Vallina recorded his first CD released with EMI CLASSICS INTERNATIONAL. This EMI Abbey Road recording received a “CHOC“ in the magazine “Le Monde de la Musique“ and brought him great acclaim in Vienna, London and Paris. Mauricio Vallina (1970) is an international concert pianist living in Brussels. He has been a top prize-winner of national and international piano competitions where prominent musicians have recognised his gift of individuality. After graduating in Havana, his native city, with a “Gold“ Diploma, he achieved a solid formation at the Moscow “Tchaikovsky“ Conservatory (Master of Fine Arts), the Madrid Royal Conservatory and the Como International Piano Foundation. The essential guidance and influence of Roberto Urbay, Henrietta Mirvis, Irina Plotnikova, Joaquin Soriano, Alicia de Larrocha, Dimitri Bashkirov, Fou Tsong, Zenaida Manfugás and Martha Argerich, brought an extraordinary dimension to his artistry.Vallina performs at many of the great international festivals, including “La Roque d‘Anthèron“, Schleswig-Holstein music festival, Radio France-Montpellier festival, “Beppu, Argerich‘s meeting point“, Sintra festival, Lugano festival… In solo recitals, chamber music and concerts with orchestras, his playing has been highly praised in important venues across Europe, America, Asia and Australia; many of them both radio and television broadcasted. His musical tastes span wide, he performs a broad repertoire from Bach to contemporary works, some of them dedicated to him. He is considered one of the most interesting pianists of his generation. A profound view of the musical drama, unmistakable lightness, enormous expressive power and a dazzling spectrum of colours are pointed out as hallmark qualities of his rare musical personality. With a significant critical acclaim Mauricio Vallina opened the last “Martha Argerich Project_Lugano Festival 2007“ performing Lutoslawsky_Paganini Variations with the “Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana“ and successfully performed Mac Dowell second piano concerto with the “Orchestre Philarmonique de Liège“ at the opening concert of their “Festival Amériques“ (january 2008) . He was chosen “The Rurh Piano Festival Stipend of the year“ and as part of this promotional project, the solo recital he will perform during the next 2008 edition of the festival will be recorded and released within the phonographic magazine FonoForum.
