Linda Shumas

"there are no wrong notes, just musical detours"

About Me

Linda Shumas is a Pianist/Composer/Harpsichordist and Synth player. She interprets the Baroque/Classical/Contemporay repetoire but when it comes to her original work she is an improviser who likes to call her works for the piano, harpsichord or synthesizer, structured improvisations. Sometimes she'll take an original theme and just improvise the hell out of it. She loves sound textures and the layering of sound and emulates the synthesizer through her phenominal technique. Fingers of steel, she plays with great power and sensitivity and each note means something, no note is taken for granted. None of her music is written out with the acception of a couple of earlier works for competition, one of which she won the Jean Coulthardt Scholarship for Original Composition. She doesnt write the keyboard music out in fear that it will become too mechanical and she will think of it in terms of notes rather than sound. Her Violinist Duo partner Ezra Azmon says this about her music "she pushes the keys of the heart".She is part of a duo which is made up of her on Keyboards and composition and DJ/Producer dj Chaba.Khan behind the controls.

Sounds Like: GOLD WRAPPED IN VELVET"The works of Linda Shumas are always breath-taking and beautiful. I would recommmend her music to anyone. Mozart and Bach are household names and I believe one day Shumas will be too. Anyone with ears, listen, and find yourself in awe of the unique and absolutly amazing sounds of Linda Shumas~Amazon.com Five Star Rating"Interestingly enough, the astonishingly powerful pianist Linda Shumas saw this work (1997 Fantasie, Minuet and Trio) when it was yet imcomplete in 1996, when i still had sufficient strength in my arms to tune her massive semi-concert grand. It was only after Simon Docking's premiere of the work here at St. George-the -Martyr, and the subsequent TWO NEW HOURS broadcast in the Spring of 2001, that i was free to place the score in Linda's hands. I have no intentions of ever again writing a work that is as difficult to play as this one. From my entire life's output of musical ideas , this one pience stands apart." ~Composer John S. Gray"...recommended as much for its warmth and comfort as for its shimmery post-Impressionism ...accessible, appealing, substantial....this and the Marion McPartland are the best new solo piano albums, so far this year. ~ Fanfare Magazine
