About Me

I'm either half art, half writer and half medicine or they are really the same for me (wait, that makes 1 and a half). I'm bad at math. I can't ever remember my age. My sister & I both think everyone else is gay. This is probably fate, as gay men have an unnatural affinity towards me. And I adore it, yes I do. I have too many passions and not enough time. I'm fascinated by medical ethical issues and medicine in developing countries. I am the co-founder of Sambhali International. I give to much money and time away to good causes, but I'm ok with that. I read and write constantly. Love music and wine... art and rock climbing. Drink my coffee strong & black. I never sleep. I can fix just about anything. I can't stand loud eating & I smoke when stressed but try not to admit it. Except I just admitted that, didn't I? I’m also much too honest. I'm a freelance photographer & writer. I like to make my friends cry and then take pictures of them. I trip over almost everything and simply cannot paint my own fingernails. Oh the left hand works out just fine... but the right is a no go, fingernail polish everywhere, up to my elbows even. I have lovely, brilliant children and I pierced my belly button with an IV catheter in a clinical exam room with a bunch of loopy interns years and years ago. And of course, my friends sing along & they love me.

The Clash, Ramones, Indie, Morrissey, old punk, 7 seconds, Big Head Todd, Dave Matthews... G love, you know, all of the classic stuff I suppose. Tango, Pink Martini, Pachelbel, too much to list really... anything that makes me cry. Should I just say I like everything? I like everything.

Where there is no Doctor, Winter in the Blood (James Welch), Stiff (Mary Roach), Field Guides (I pick them up wherever I go), Anais Nin, Tolkien, Rumi, Richard Preston (good science-nerd writer), Jim Harrison, anything by Katherine... mmm, medical textbooks and diagnostic manuals.

Heroes:

My sister (wonky eyes and all), whoever invented sock monkeys & Theodor Seuss Geisel.
