MELISSA CAMERON

I grew up in Vancouver, B.C. When I was eight I met a very influential woman named Joani Taylor (2003 Juno Award Nominee), who introduced me to, and helped develop my love for music. A year later I moved to Yokohama, Japan where I was involved in choir and theatre groups, which furthered my interest in music. I was back in Vancouver in '96 and continued to study with Joani. After graduating high school in 2002, I decided to move to Toronto to attend Humber College. I completed my Humber Jazz Music Diploma in June 2006, and am currently in my fourth year, completing my degree.Outside of Humber I am a part of an original hip hop band called wordPEOPLE ; a seven-piece band that aspires to redifine hip-hop using unparalleled ingredients; wielding writing and musicianship reminiscent of the glory days of both Blue Note and Motown Records alike.
