From a very early age, it was clear that the power of music would take Gemari Arjaye on a lifelong journey in pursuit of the ultimate form of expression and the ability to make bold and endless statements through his artistry.
Born in January 1977, Gemari is a native of Brooklyn, New York. As a child, Gemari developed an interest in music through his Bass Player father in conjunction with early exposure to The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix--all of whom Gemari still cites as huge influences.
Gemari began his formal music training as a pre-teen, first taking music classes at his local elementary school and then later auditioning for Philippa Schuyler, a prominent Performing Arts school located in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn.
Gemari was accepted into Schuyler and spent two years studying Instrumental Music and Theory under the guidance of Martin Gigler.
In 1990, Gemari migrated to South Carolina with his family and for the next five years he would continue his music studies under the late Keith Dabrue. During this period Gemari gained experience and recognition in his popular High School Jazz band as well as on the local Southern Gospel circuit.
Upon graduation, Gemari was all set to return to New York in hopes of attending Music College. However, within a week, Gemari was presented with the opportunity to become a founding member of Admiral Freebie--a grass roots, jam oriented rock band that would soon make a name for itself in the South East area. A professional highlight for Admiral Freebie was being presented with the South Carolina Rock Band of the year award in 1996.
Since 1997, Gemari has had a thriving career as a live sideman; including an 8 year stint as guitarist for national recording artist Omar Chandler. Gemari is also a working session guitarist; often doing remote sessions with his "Tracks By Mail" service. Through this service, Gemari is able to record and distribute professional guitar tracks and multi-instrumental works out of his Pro-Tools based home project studio. Gemari is also available for voice over and "in the box" Audio Mixing work, having experience with various plug-ins from Waves, Digidesign, Soundtoys, etc.
As of October 2006, Gemari has been the guitarist for "The Touch Band and Show" based out of Kingstree, South Carolina. Gemari also performs as "Gemari Arjaye Acoustic"; singing and playing acoustic guitar for various functions.
