Key 23 was founded by six occult enthusiasts who were - at one time or another - bringing the world of the occult to the Internet masses through their own various projects. Later, several other noted occultists, counterculturalists, and forward thinkers joined the ranks of Chris Arkenberg, Lapo Bourreaux, Klint Finley, Chris Joseph, Michael Szul, and Wes Unruh to bring their perspectives to the growing community.
