-BIO-
March 2003-May 2004: with the glory days of Italy's and Milan's 90's hardcore scene now long gone, Federico Oddone (founding member and guitar hero of Sottopressione, the best Italian HC band of the 90's that sold about 10.000 records! also member of GHCP and Maze) finds himself looking for something different. He gives a first breath of life into the project arranging a first line-up with vocalist Flavio Di Marco (who played in Jelly Bean and was the label-manager behind StereoSupremo Rec., also a friend of Mike Patton and promoter of some of his italian gigs) plus Briegel and Alex Marcheschi, who played bass guitar and drums respectively in Ritmo Tribale (very famous Italian rock band of the 90s, over 140.000 copies sold!). But just when the recordings for a Mini-CD were almost set, some line-up problems came in the way, turning the pre-production stage in a temporary dead stopApril 2005: after the usual settling-down period, Federico calls Riccardo (drummer from the Romes indie scene in force with some local bands) and decides to give new life to the band with a more radical attitude. Despite being just the two of them, with lots of dedication and the help of Paco (ex-Kaos Lord guitarist) on bass they develop a proper setlist re-arranging some of the old tracks that survived the pre-production stage of 2004 and writing some brand new songs as well, growing into a new reality and setting new goals. COFFEE GROUNDS was now officially born.
November 2005-February 2006: with the arrival of Alba (from Veracrash) on bass and the coming aboard of the talented and charismatic italo-english singer Timothy Moore, the growing up process is finally over and the project finds its distinctive sound and outlook. The word for these guys is "attitude", and they show it in everything they do, going way beyond the music and well into their lives.
At the same time Federico meets again an old acquaintance from his hardcore days, Gianluca Amendolara (producer, sound engineer and bass player for Michael Pitt's band Pagoda). He falls in love with the project from the very start, and gets on board taking care of the band's first studio works.
April 2006: the first official output of the band takes the form of a trackcalled Jungle Psycho, recorded and mixed by Gianluca Amendolara andreleased on the huge 30-italian-bands online sampler Desert Sound Vol.IIpublished by the notorious italian heavy-psych-stoner-rock-space zinewww.perkele.it (see the link www.desertsounds.it). The sampler will also seethe light of day before the end of 2006 on a limited double vinyl edition withartwork courtesy of Arik Roper (designer of some artworks for Black Crowes, Nebula, Bongzilla, EyeHateGod, High On Fire, Sleep www.arikroper.com), featuring just few bands: some foreign like Dozer and Truckfighters (Sweden), Colour Haze (Germany), Brant Bjork (California) with OJM (Italy), Electric Wizard (England), with some selected bands from Italy, and COFFEE GROUNDS among them. Following shortly is the Promo 2006, recorded at Gianluca Amendolara's Cellar Door studio and given only to selected labels, that includes a handful tracks of in-your-face, yet sophisticated and powerful, stoner'n'roll!
-IDENTITY-
The COFFEE GROUNDS come from the throbbing heart of the big city, and in their lyrics they talk about their routinary and not-routinary everyday life experiences. They play hard and aggressive stoner-hard-rock'n'roll rooted in the desert scene of Southern California, with a touch of Scandinavian rock, but without forgetting the lessons of the great english, american and aussie hard rock bands of the 70's and 80's. They mix these influences with a distinctive punk attitude and a melodic and melancholic edge, coming up with an original musical twist on top of a stream of sonic loudness.
