Professor Nohair and the Wiglifters are a Jazz and Boogie Woogie Piano Trio from South East London. Actually Professor Nohair, well my good self, started playing Boogie Woogie at the age if 16 heavily influenced by the playing styles of the great Piano players such as Pete Johnson, Albert Ammons, Ramsey Lewis and Meade Lux Lewis and i then worked quite hard perfecting my own blend of Boogie Woogie and blues.
Between 1985-1995 i played Piano in The Jivin Instructors; a rockin Rhythm and Blues, Jump Jive, early Soul good time dance Band who played extensively throughout London, the UK and Europe delivering our own blend of 50s and 60s dance music to the Pub, Club and College circuits as well as supporting a whole host of major names at larger Venues...
The Jivin' Instuctors became quite infamous not just for their rockin gigs but also their off stage antics and mad adventures everywhere they went. They were always heading off to obscure places in their Transit Van and trailor with rediculous amounts of people in both and some of their tours behind the Iron Curtain were both memorable and inspiring adventures.
In 1990 i decided to form my own Trio so with the Double bass player and Drummer Professor Nohair and the Wiglifters was born. We performed a series of residencies in local Jazz Bars ands a whole array of gigs in London and the South East. We played extensively on the College Circuit and started making some forrays to distant parts of Europe.
Now joined by the imfamous Andre St Clair Dyer on Drums and Antoine Ollivier on Double bass we have made regular trips to the ski resorts such as Chamonix, Meribel, Val dIsere, Morgins and Samoens where we toured extensively in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and we have also made regular trips to the West country to Places such as Bath, Cheltenham, Glastonbury, Pewsey and Stroud where we have made many friends.
All this we still do but London is our home and it is here you are most likely to see us strutting our stuff.
We have recorded 2 CD's, one called 'Professor Nohair and the Wiglifters' featuring all our favourite hits and the second 'Jazz and Boogie Woogie vol 2' which are both of course available from Wiglifter central office.
So that is us, do catch us some time if you can and i sincerely hope we continue to knock out that Jazz and Boogiewoogie for many years to come.
