About Me
We are a Sunday morning football team based in Stoke on Trent, England.
Started off in 2000 as a 5aside poweleague team gaining back to back promotions, but then decided that the Mighty North End needed to expand, and further its fan base so in 2005 an 11-aside team was created.
We accepted an invitation from the Ansells League to play in their league, and settled for a debut season in Division 5. It was here that we gained valauble experience on how to break down teams that would sit with 9 men behind the ball. We knew our strengths, and worked on them. We had blistering pace up fron, with players all over the park that are nore than capable with the ball attheir feet. We went from strength to strength only losing 5 games in our first season and once again gaining promotion to Divison 4.Whilst being in Division 4 we have had a mixed season, producing some good performances in the league early on, but showing that we are more than capable of beating any team in a cup, getting to the final of the Staffs Trophy scoring 25 and conceding only 2 goals in the competition.
Unfortunatley, we lost the final against Robin Hood Rookery, but did ourselves proud, and the 4-0 scoreline in no way reflects how the game went. We had a man sent off just after half time, but we were still the better side for the 90 mins, and until Robin Hood scored just before half time in extra time. We have also missed out on promotion, and finish 5th in the league. It looks like the silly points that we dropped ealry in the season have cost us dear, losing against teams that we should be wiping the floor with. Lets hope that next season we learn from our mistakes, and wrap the league up convincingly, because we know we have the quality to do it!
Here is a run down of the current North End squad:GoalkeepersMartin Perry (Combs in Goal) - Original North End keeper, and on his day is a match for anyone. Good shot stopper, but sometimes lapses in concerntration can prove costly.Ed Jones (Big Jones) - Young apprentice who has shown his quality early doors. Good shot stopper and commands his box well. At only 16 years old, he is definetly one for the future!DefendersDan Hughes (Danno) - First season with the club, and has shown signs of what he is capable of. With us switching to 3 at the back, it has been hard for him to have a consistent run in the team, but always gives 100%.John Bailey (Baij) - Compared to Bobby Moore in his first season, and again has shown his quality again this year. Never lets the side down, and is very dependable. One of the first names on the team sheet. Needs to work on his shooting though!Nathan Brown (Trev) - Like Baij, Trev is one of the first names on the team sheet. Has very good reading of the play, hard but fair in the tackle and never lets the side down.Gav Leech (Ginger Balls) - Can also play equally as good in goal, but his favoured position is centre half, again an integral part of the defence. Hard in the tackle. Good distribution. Along with Baij and Trev, he creates a top class defence line.Matt Jones (Famous) - A steady right back when hes available, but due to his music commitments is only here for 50% of the season. Very energetic and never lets the side down, and always gives 110%.Dan James (DJ) - The gaffer. Uses his pace well when he plays himself, never really gets involved in any off the ball antics and just concerntrates purely on the football! lolMidfieldersDan Mason (Mase) - Loves running with the ball and taking people on, thats when he is at his best! Uses his pace well, and also has a good shot. When Mase palys well, it lifts the team.Rich Lloyd (Woody) - Mr Dependable, most of the time!? Has the experience that North End need, and is often a calming influence. Good tackler, and uses the ball well.Liam James (Burrell) - Keeps the play ticking by playing short passes until he can see that killer pass. Has been used as a make shift defender at times this year, and is equally accomplished playing in any position. Current penalty taker, and keeps a calm hed in front of goal.Rob Lloyd (Kettle Head) - Can play in a variety of positions, but his favoured one is in front of back four. Good in the tackle, and a good marker. Again, due to some outstanding performances by others, has found it hard to have a good run in the team, but never lets the side down when called upon.Steve Porter (Port) - North Ends answer to Jan Molby. Most skilful member of the team, and can also pick out a pass. Does his job well marshalling the defence.Steve Scott (Scotty) - Left sided player, who when gets the ball looks up and whips it in to dangerous areas. No nonsense palyer who chips in with his fair share of goals and numerous assists.Dan Joy (Joyner) - Like Scott, always looks to whip the ball in to a dangerous area for the strikers. Again chips in with fair share of goals, and has hit double figures for the second consecutive season. Often played out of position at left back. But likes to shoot on goal.Lee Swinson (Arms) - Fast as fook. Works a few Sundays, and isnt up for it on other occassions, but when hes on his game, hes a match for anyone. Loves to beat players and scores the odd goal too.Nick Hallam (Nicko) - New signing, and has figured in the last few games of the season. Mops up and uses the ball well. Once his fitness is back, he will be a very valuable member of the team.StrikersMatt Joy (Junior) - Top scorer in the debut season with 35, but has since gone to uni in Sheffield, so is very rarely back. Lightning pace, and a killer shot. Been missed this year.Steve Fowler (Growl) - Best header of the ball, EVER!! HAs been used in midfield towards the end of the season, and influences a game like no other. One of the most consistent members of the team, one of the most skilful too. Quality player!Ryan Miszkiel (Mooshka) - Top scorer this season. Holds the ball up well, very skilful, rock hard shot. A handful for every defence we've played against this year. Is equally good at centre half. The Future Is Bright The Future IS North End
