Hello, I`m a track maker and guitar player of doly. As we declare ourselves Techno Punk, we play Techno with Punk spirit! Originally our band form was two guitar players and one bass guitar player, but now we are masuya`nbass (bass and vocal) and me koichiro (program and guitar).
Doly has been started by a coincidence. Masuya and I were same high school, but we did not contact each other until we met accidentally at Atari Teenage Riots live show in Tokyo 1996. We decided to start a band, after the coincident. We named after the first cloned sheep Dolly, changed the spelling a little.
Doly has an original and unique sound. We play hardcore techno based tracks with a band style. Sometime I feel we are kicked out from rock scene, because we play techno, and kicked out from techno scene because we play like a rock band. Damn! lol However we trust our own style!
When we say Techno, we do not mean Kraftwerk or YMO. Doly was strongly influenced by bands appeared in early90s rave movement such as Jesus Jones, Pop Will Eat Itself, EMF, KLF and Prodigy.
Those bands are based on techno or dance music, but they really rocks. We felt punk spirit from their music and the influence is still our core of sounds.
Another strong influence is a Japanese violent techno label hyper rich. Hyper rich is Sonic dragolgo`s techno label and a pioneer of Tokyo hardcore/gabba/J-core scene. Contrary to the name, the label is one of the poorest! lol Doly had played with the hyper rich 1996-2001 until Sonic Dragolgo went to UK and turned to Ele-pop.
Recent our sound styles are divided to 2 kinds; hardcore side (ex. Hardcore! the broken synth hell, Bro hymn) and pop side (ex. Tokio Disco Punk, Horizontal Scr.) I hope you like our music. And if you do, please leave a comments and add me!!
