I am here for Friends

About Me

OUR TRIP TO WATERLOO w/JACQUES' FRIEND JEAN-JEAN WHO OBVIOUSLY TAKES THE REENACTING OF NAPOLEON'S IMPERAL GUARD PRETTY SERIOUSLY AND EVEN GOT JACQUES TO DRESS UP IN FULL SAPEUR KIT, WEAPONS AND ALL!
I have a degree in Culinary Arts as a pastry chef; also managed a bed & breakfast and currently work for the county newspaper. I lived in the Cayman Islands for 5 years where I met my husband, Jacques, who is from Belgium and totally into wine. (Cayman being a British colony, I also acquired the talent of driving on the left side of the road in a right-hand drive car, which after 5 years of being back in the US, I still find myself listing strongly to the left side of the road if I'm not careful, as well as the annoying tendency to try and get in the car to drive on the right which is alas the passenger side and NOT the driver's, so I have to pretend I'm putting my purse or whatever else I might be carrying on the seat to avoid looking like a deranged idiot.) We are currently living in 19th century-style self-imposed exile (ok, except for maybe the computer, oh and satellite TV) in Pennsylvania Dutch country amongst the Amish on a farm with Paco the Cayman Rasta Cat.

My Interests

Cooking, travel, reading, antiquing, sailing, pirates (yes, PIRATES!), English country dancing (my latest hobby). For some reason I really enjoy boxing (go figure!) I am fascinated with world religions, mythologies and mysticism, traditional Japanese culture (kabuki theatre, sumo, the geisha and samurai), powwows, medieval arms and armour, Colonial America and the Napoleonic Era in Europe. As you can tell I'd pretty much live in the past if I could.

I'd like to meet:

Ok, even though I'm happily married...
Gordon Ramsay (HOT! HOT! HOT! Scottish cooking god!)
Sig Hansen (HOT! HOT! HOT! Norwegian fishing god!) Ok, so I actually got to see him live & in person...SWOON!!! ;P
Richard Dean Anderson (though I never really watched MacGyver. I only think he got totally hot after he was on Stargate: SG1 and let his hair go grey. What can I say, I dig older men! Even my husband is almost 11 years older than me!)Oh, Jeremy Irons (I know... another "older" guy, but very cerebral...)

Sean Bean absolutely rocks my world (Maybe it's just the Richard Sharpe persona that attracts me, but he seems like a fun kick-ass kind of guy!), and I've always had kind of a thing for David Duchovny (I know, I know, he watches a lot of porn, but I don't hold that against him. I can't stand that woman who is his wife though. Sorry Tea, nothing personal, well sort of...)
Just because I think they're so awesome... Willie Nelson (one of the coolest country musicians ever!) Arlo Guthrie (one of the coolest folk musicians ever!) David Carradine, the world's greatest kung fu cowboy (ok, you may beg to differ, but he's pretty darned close!) Peter Fonda always seemed like he'd be a cool cat to hang out with...Hmmm...I'll have to think on this a little more...

adopt your own virtual pet!

Music:

I'll pretty much listen to everything, but I don't much care for like death metal and maybe modern jazz. But ask me about anything else, I'll give it a listen - I'm always looking for something different! I love ballads, music that tells a story, as well as traditional forms of music be it from whatever country or corner of the world, especially Traditional Celtic Folk, Reggae Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Steeleye Span, Old Blind Dogs, Damien Rice, Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse, John Tams, Akira Yamaoka, Kate Wolf, Bob Marley, Lady Saw

Movies:

Nearly anything with Sean Bean in it, Death Race 2000 (I've been told I'm an aggressive driver, but oh - to be actually ALLOWED to run people over!), The Transporter (a hot English guy, kicking major kungfu ass in the South of France, what could be better?), Ocean's 11 & 12, Willy Wonka (the original, not that bitch-ass version w/Johnny Depp), Die Hard with a Vengeance (Jeremy Irons was smokin' in that one), Dune, The Village (since that one was filmed around where we live, you get the idea, though I do often wonder what's wandering around in the woods around my house at night...), Shawn of the Dead - anything with zombies (I have a bizarre fascination for the undead. Ew you freak, not like THAT!), The Last of the Mohicans, Dance Hall Queen, Pride and Prejudice (I'm always a sucker for a good romantic costumed drama), The Usual Suspects

Television:

Right now, anything with Gordon Ramsay (Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Hell's Kitchen. The 'f' Word) Deadliest Catch on Discovery Channel Surviorman Anthony Bourdain the Sharpe series on BBC America (the Napoleonic era in Europe being my favorite historical period along with Colonial America), Battlestar Galactica, NCIS, Eureka, Jekyll, Dr. Who, Monk, Jericho. Antiquey stuff like: Cash in the Attic, Bargain Hunter and Antiques Road Show. My secret vices include: Ghost Hunters and America's Next Top Model.

Books:

The Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell, the Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick O'Brien, Sir John Fielding mysteries, frothy Regency romance novels, Charles Dickens, any exhaustive, historical compendium written on a particular subject like Salt, Tobacco, Small Pox, that sort of thing...

Just finished the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. Very practical advice on surviving the undead. Ok laugh, but I've always been paranoid about zombies attacking, and at least now I'LL be prepared!
