This is the way of Peace ~ Overcome evil with good, falsehood with truth, and hatred with love.

About Me

I'm a married homemaker and the proud mother of a 17 year old son.

I've been described as an "Earth Mother", nurturing and caring for everyone, easy to talk to, always willing to listen.

I believe I was born in the wrong place and time, as I'm a bit of a hippie at heart, tiedye is my favorite color.

Peace for all people is what I'm dreamn, though I'm not confident we shall ever see it in our lifetime.

"To Love without condition, to talk without intention, to give without reason, to care without expectation...is the heart of a true friend."

I live by the following belief, "the only dreams that are unattainable are the ones you don't allow yourself the freedom to dream."

My Interests

I enjoy playing the guitar, listening to music and reading. I like to spend time with my family and friends.
I like to draw pencil and pastel portraits. I've completed one action adventure/romance novel, while currently working on two others. I write for my and my friends' enjoyment.

My Canine Companion
Kodiak is my new puppy, well he's not so new anymore, have had him since Feb. 5 when he turned 7 weeks old. He's a Siberian Husky and already an incredible companion and friend. We've only spent one day apart with the exception of an hour here or there to run errands. We do everything together. He's been a God send for me, as I'm outside again enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, I'm going for walks again (with my powerchair) and I feel safe doing so with him by my side. There is nothing so unconditional, so reassuring and comforting as the love and companionship of a wonderful dog.

My Feline Friends
Sylvester is our oldest pet, sort of keeping our other pets in line. He's a beautiful cat weighing around 13lbs. He's pretty mellow, preferring to lay on the back of the recliner or on my husband's lap.
Oreo Cookie is our youngest cat. He's a handful, always playing and talking. He's a snuggler, but at nearly 15lbs. that can be problematic. He dearly loved Echo, our dog of 15 years and was heartbroken when she passed, but he's trying to make Kodi his new best friend. We'll see how that works out.

I'd like to meet:

I'm looking for friends with similar interests and experiences, someone who likes to exchange thoughts, ideas and intellectual chat.

I think the only way we continue to grow is to let others teach us what they have learned on their journey, as all our life experiences are different and in ways unique.

Words to Live By
"If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche' from the 60's, that's the problem. Peace and Love are eternal." - John Lennon

"We came here...to show and to say to all of you that apathy isn't it and that we can do something, ok, so flower power didn't work, so what? We start again." -John Lennon

"People cannot love each other just for being people." -Alexis J. Janicki

"To Laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch… to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!" -Emerson

"Being genuine will bring you to other genuine people." -Yvelise

"The example you set will speak louder than the words spoken to those worthy of your light." -Ivy

"There are no do-overs in Life." -Kim (Manga-chan)

"Maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had, and what you've learned from them, and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated." -unknown

"Our security can only be found in unity with all Humanity. We must defend Humanity rather than seek the false promises of nationalism, classism, narrow ideology or a fractured and exclusive religiosity. There are good people and bad people in every group under the sun. There is a class of good people that is of a higher order than the "goodness" found in group loyalty. Truly good people seek to build bridges to other good people in all groups but most especially with those groups that they have a history of conflict with." - Bill

"The vast majority of the world's people are decent people trapped by the circumstances of life and birth and yet when given the chance, most people will rise to the occasion when offered kindness and respect." - Bill

"Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out... and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel.... And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man" - with his mouth." - Mark Twain

"It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets." - Voltaire

Support Groups

Fragile Not Broken

I worked professionally for more than 3 years as an Independent Living Specialist with an organization that advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities.

I provided Peer Counseling for persons with disabilities as well as numerous other services. I am a trained Mentor and a Certified Facilitator of Essential Lifestyle Person Centered Planning, creating plans for persons with disabilities, for their future, so they have some control over the direction of their own lives.

I specialized in Education Rights for children with special needs and the special education system.

My son has the diagnosis of Fragile X Syndrome. I have a support group both online and in 'real life' (the latter on hiatus), FragileNotBroken, where other parents of children with Fragile X Syndrome can meet, talk and support one another.

Supporting One Another

Being a person with a disability and knowing the value of peer support I collaborated with a couple of friends and we created this support group.

Persons with disabilities, family members or caregivers of persons with disabilities are welcome to join the group. We offer daily chat, resources, informative disabilitiy specific blogs, a place to vent and the compassion and understanding of other people with disabilities.

The group is structured and private to offer a safe environment in which to network and share personal experiences.

Click on the logo if you're a person, family member or care giver of someone with a disability.

Music:

I love the music of the Beatles, especially John Lennon's solo music. I actually listen to a large variety of music styles and genres. The only ones I can't listen to are hip hop and rap. Just not my cup of tea.

Movies:

I love horror movies, not the slash 'em up blood and gore, but Classic Horror movies like Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc. I don't do 'Romantic Comedies'.. YUK! A good psychological thriller is cause to break out the popcorn.

Television:

Over the years I've enjoyed the classic British Comedies. I don't sit in front of the TV for hours on end, but when I do sit down I enjoy Dog Whisperer, Anything on Animal Planet, Top Chef, Project Runway, Ghost Hunters, Little People Big World and Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

Books:

I read a lot of Dean Koontz novels. I really enjoy an escape into an historic romance, especially anything by Cassie Edwards. I consider a good 'self-help' book a good read, usually regarding parenting, children with special needs or healing. My favorite book is probably "When Smart People Work for Dumb Bosses". Been there! Done that!

Heroes:

My father is my hero, as he loved, cared and gave, never giving up on his hopes and dreams. His laughter and sense of humor were irresistible, his hugs unforgettable!
John Lennon is someone I greatly admire for his tireless efforts to educate us on and promote world peace, humanity's responsibility to one another and the planet and love for all our brothers and sisters. He was a great inspiration for me.
