Award Winning Author Laura E. Johnson was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. She grew up in Downkirk with her mother and two sisters. She later moved to the United States in 1988 with her family in search of the all American dream. She joined the Army in 1995 and is currently serving stateside. Laura has traveled throughout the world and has met many interesting people. Laura discovered her passion for writing as a child growing up in Jamaica. While deployed in Iraq, she was inspired to complete her dream of writing her first book. She went through a life changing experience, which included a mental, physical and emotional growth. She felt alone in the desert even though she had her fellow comrades surrounding her. While on a crucial mission, she decided to document her many experiences in the sand. With her notebook and pen in hand she began to release the words that would slowly began the quest for temporary healing. In addition she began to perform live poetry readings in both Kuwait and Iraq. A Soldier’s Heart was fully conceived in Iraq, her first book was a collection of poetry dealing with her emotions and battles in a war zone. Upon completion of her first novel she was then inspired to write her next book. This book was more personal; it included some of her own experience as well as some from her comrades. With the lost of countless lives, not knowing when and if she could be next, she became obsessed with completing that book.
