About Me
From the uniqueness of his name “Cleous,†to the content of his written materials, he brings a notable difference; one that is worth taking note of. Born February 1, 1978, on the island of Jamaica, Cleous Young spent most of his childhood growing up in Jamaica. Growing up with five women in the household, Young had to search elsewhere to find the teachings that a young man growing up on the island would have received. It was older male friends that taught Young life’s fundamentals; such things as swimming, playing marbles, chess, riding a bike, playing soccer, cricket, and other activities that island boys would partake in. Young adapted to the learning of these things very quickly and soon he was able to teach those who were younger. While Young learned these things outside the home, his home training never departed from him. Good manners, educational values, house chores, morals, the benefits of having God in his life, were a few of the values Young was taught at home; courtesy of the wisdom of his Grandmother. As a young boy, Cleous had a little love for writing. He was known for writing a good poem or love letter. That little love was kept in his heart as he grew older and wrote not only for himself but also close friends that requested it. Although Young became good at writing for himself and others, he never saw it as a career or even took much interest to make it pass his leisure time. It was not until a friend of his, who he had written for many times, influenced him to enter a poetry contest. This was the birth of a new talent as Young began to take more focus on the opportunities of writing. Now there wasn’t any elder to teach him how to become a better writer. Young took all responsibility for his writing by teaching himself. It was not much fundamentals to teach as he has been doing it for himself and others for many years. He just had to practice, and he practiced for three straight years. Writing what ever came to his mind; from quotes, poems, letters, and manuscripts. His years of hard work paid off. Young is now considered to be one of the most influential writers in the literary world. Whether he dangles your mind in a fairytale, gravitate your attention in fiction, or soak your thoughts in factual literary, you are bound to leave with a part of him; for he creates every piece with a touch of his soul. “The soul is the essence to every person and if you can help to make up that essence, then you have touched a special part of that person,†said Young, as he thinks about the many souls he will someday touch.
As an adult, Cleous Young focuses his attention on writing for children, which becomes a reversible role for him. “I learned most of the things growing up because an adult outside the family taught me. Now I feel I have the responsibility to teach someone else. This is somewhat a part of the cycle of life; each one teaches one…†are words from Young’s philosophy. But Young wants to go beyond just teaching one. The children of the world are his targeted market, as each is equipped with a soul that is pure. One that Young hopes to add to their essence and help them grow sturdily.Young has been recently compared by his family members as the prodigal son. However, he has nothing to be ashamed of during his isolation from certain friends and family members. “At times you need a moment for yourself to see and feel what you want out of life,†said Young proudly. Indeed he returned from his isolation and with something that is worth sacrificing the best calf for celebration. The Mountain of Miracles Volume 1 is a newly created children’s book by Young.
