For Kyra, it all started very early - dance, community theater & music ministry by the age of 5, a session vocalist and live performer by 7, and a published ASCAP songwriter by 13 (EMI/CMG). Kyra is a true soul child of both the ministry and performing worlds. She’s grown up in that mix. Coming from an entertainment industry family, she’s witnessed, and experienced nearly every aspect of the business and she’s watched and learned. So, what now? REAL LIFE MUSIC.
She consistently performs as a solo artist as well as writing, recording & taking the bgv’s on the road with ELECTRIC CHURCH featuring "toddiefunk." These days, she’s mostly spending some serious time in the studio- writing & recording demos for her upcoming solo project. She’s excited to have worked with amazing talents like the lovely award winning singer / songwriter, Cindy Morgan, Grammy winner, Drew Ramsey (India Arie, Johhny Lang), Trevor McNevan of Thousand Foot Krutch & Adam Smith (Brit Nicole) & noted writers/producer Greg & Tyler Bieck. She’s also had some help from favorites like, Jonathan Steingard of Hawk Nelson, Scott Davis (Jesse Daniels), Tim Rosenau of tobyMac, Antonio Neal (EMI/CMG) & of course "toddiefunk" of tobyMac & ELECTRIC CHURCH- as well as other talented writers & producers. She’s booking upcoming solo performance & ministry dates as well.
In her words, "Music has always been such a big part of my life and who I am. I write about what the world looks and feels like to me and what inspires and moves me. I love songs that reach out and take you somewhere - whether its somewhere you’ve been before that you love- or someplace you need to get TO or AWAY from. Its a driving force to be able to touch someone like that and hopefully encourage them to come along, step out, & live life big & loud. It’s incredible to have someone listen to your song and say, ’That’s MY song, it speaks to me, or it touches me.’ That’s amazingly powerful! You can’t take that for granted."
"Growing up around people actually doing what I want to do just brings a reality to the process. Fame is just not a draw for me. You just do what you do, and do it well. When the fame thing does happen in music, I think it kind of takes on a life of it’s own. I don’t think it can be controlled. It guess it can be exciting, but I’ve seen that it can come & go without rhyme or reason. That’s too shaky for me. I just focus on what’s real & true & feed that. Music is my thing, my gift & I’m gonna work hard & put my heart into it - regardless. It’s about purpose & passion - that’s where the joy is. PLUS - I have this huge, amazing testimony & I KNOW I walk in miracles daily... it’s just rude to keep that all to yourself!
With such a colorful mix of musical influences from Motown soul, Gospel and Contemporary Christian to Pop Rock, R&B, Jazz and Funk, she can’t help but combine all of these flavors with her own vision. Her sweet, soulful vocals are timely and enticing. Her natural beauty and essence instantly catches your eye and captures your heart.
Kyra brings a fresh, positive outlook mixed with just enough rebellion aimed at the socially acceptable cookie cutter expectations.
