About Me
Liquor Barrel, LLC is the brainchild of Walt Liquor. Started as an artist friendly management company, it has become synonymous with incredible talent and branched into many fields of the entertainment industry. ----Walt Liquor a.k.a. "427" has become an invaluable player in the evolution of the West Coast hip-hop scene. Being involved in the sale of over 7 million units makes him a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. Walt began his career in the music business on the streets of the Bay Area with the underground releases of his group Mixed Practice in 1994 and his “427†solo EP in 1995. While producing, performing, recording and rapping with artists such as Talib Kweli, Planet Asia, Cali Agents, Rasco, Saafir, Living Legends, Mystic Journeymen, Grouch, Murs and more, Walt became a staple in the Bay Area hip-hop culture. As an artist and producer, Walt has been featured on albums such as the†Rules of the Game†compilation (Tripek Records), Murs’ “F’realâ€, Kirby Dominant's "Rapitalism", Grammy Nominated Mystic’s “Cuts for Luck, and Scars for Freedomâ€, and "Bringin' It Back" with Planet Asia, DJ Revolution and Kutmasta Kurt off of the Laid In Full compilation (Blackberry Records). Walt also produced “Don’t Let Up†by Talib Kweli & Planet Asia. ---In 1997, while living in Oakland, CA, Walt started Darcman Recordings. It was a small but efficient 24-track. Darcman Recording Studios was the premier underground recording facility in the Bay Area and was often utilized by Rasco, Planet Asia, Talib Kweli, Slum Village, Bahamadia, Mystic, M.F. Doom, Skhoolyard Massive, Hieroglyphics, Cali Agents, Saafir, Living Legends, Fanatik, Jamal Ski, Various Blends, Abstract Rude, Tony Da Skitzo and too many more to name. ---In 2000, Walt Liquor co-founded BAT Management (LA) with partner Evan Bogart who was heavily involved with the discovery of Eminem. They later brought in Jordan Feldstein (Maroon 5), Justin Trugman (Redman, Nelly, ODB) and Joseph “3H†Weinberger (Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel, Kanye West) to help take the company to the next level. For a few years, BAT Management stunned the industry as “the youngest in charge†with ages ranging from 17 to 22. It was during this time that Walt began forging the careers of California legends-- Planet Asia and Mystic-- and producer extraordinaire Jake One (G-Unit, De La Soul, E40, The Game, Lil Mo). ---In late 2002, the BAT Management team decided to go their separate ways. It was then that Walt started Liquor Barrel Management. All of Walt’s clients stayed with him through the split. They walked a path that led to a 2002 Grammy Nomination for both Mystic and Planet Asia, and a 2002 BET Nomination for Mystic. Planet Asia has seen 3 Source Magazine “Independent Album of the Year†awards among many other awards and accolades. After taking The Sundance Film Festival by storm in 2004 and 2005, the world saw the release of the critically acclaimed documentary “Rize†by world renowned photographer/director David Lachapelle on Lion’s Gate Films. Music supervisors Red Ronin Productions tapped Walt Liquor to help create the soundtrack for this explosive film. Liquor Barrel Management clients Flii Stylz, Bloezart, Tenashus, and Planet Asia all had major roles in that soundtrack. Today, Liquor Barrel serves as a staple in the hip-hop community. It is a model by which all management companies can mold themselves after in this ever-changing business.
