Nikolaus Sands, also known as Comrad, has been involved in electronic music production since the age of sixteen. Based in Ottawa, Comrad plays original house, eletro-house music. Classically trained in theory, guitar, sitar, and saxophone, Comrad began applying his diverse background to create atmospheric and heavy dance music. Using created and found resources, Comrad successfully incorporates organic instrumentation with thick analog bass and drum sounds. The vision Comrad portrays in his music is dark, and often haunting as a result of melancholic vocal productions and sampling. However, this gloomy tone pulses with shaking bass lines, hard-hitting rhythms, and soaring anthems. The result is an expression of Comrad’s passionate and unique mind. Comrad has played venues such as The Arts Court, Shanghai restaurant and Café Nostalgica to a growing and devout following.
