Use the scroll bar to read the Full Biography:
Alex Bridge served his drumming apprenticeship in the proving grounds of the pubs and clubs of Mid Wales (some Welsh readers may recall a few years back, hearing the cry "sack the ******* drummer!" resonating from the back of the local boozer)
. He was initiated in to the drum throne on a no frills diet of Dr Feelgood (it was Kevin Morris of Dr Feelgood who gave Alex his first pair of drumsticks), The Jam, The Beatles, The Stones, etc, etc with a whole bunch of different bands. Lucky enough to play alongside some great musicians early on - he was hooked!
A place at a busy London music school saw Alex immersed (drowned) in the subject, taking drum lessons with top tutor and Rhythm Mag' contributor Paul Elliot, and sharing classrooms with a diverse mix of musicians, ranging from dishevelled 'rock guitar gods' to seriously dedicated 'jazz heads' (check these ex-students: Tom Baxter - Sam Burgess - Simon Lea ).
Brit Blues remained a firm staple, providing many a gig, and plenty of studio time, but Alex soon took up the throne for Indie/Britpopers ACCRINGTON STANLEY , about to embark on a mammoth, nationwide tour (the ill-fated 'Moped Emptyness' tour) to flog their super-duper new album 'Lovebound' to unsuspecting punters (or was that 'to flog unsuspecting punters with their super-duper new album'?).
After a few years spent rattling around in grubby old transit vans, existing on ginsters midnight snacks, Alex decided on a break from music. Setting off on an adventurous journey (rattling around in a grubby old transit van) around the more spectacular parts of Wales, Scotland, West Coast America and the Canadian Rockies, he eventually emerged from the wilderness, a knackered mountain leader. Settling in Oxfordshire and completing the designs of a World Atlas with Paul Oliver (Prolific author: Blues Fell This Morning, Story Of The Blues, etc etc etc...), the bad news was... he was ready to dust off the old stick bag and get back in the drum throne... Ha Ha!!
A new website and the release of the temporarily shelved ' Half Life ' album, saw Alex back on stage with the Stanleys and inevitably, back in the recording studio. Then after being completely floored by an understated, yet stunningly hypnotic drum performance by 'The Bays' Andy Gangadeen, Alex set about finding the man who taught him, and wound up signing on with legendary drum tutor Bob Armstrong . Alex says "this is an absolute revelation: it's total dedication and a lot of hard graft, and I love it! (except the hard graft bit) Cheers Bob!"
Meanwhile Oxford based singer/songwriter Drew Atkins was looking for a tight rhythm section to complete the line-up of a new 60s/BritPop influenced three piece. So - alongside Niall Jeger on bass, Alex took up the drum chair to complete the new line up of THE ANYDAYS . The band have been busy recording their debut album at the legendary Toerag studios (home of the desk used by the Beatles to record Revolver! - Also where The White Stripes recorded Elephant) aswell as filming promo videos and performing to packed houses in and around the Oxford area.
Alex can currently be spotted out and about with the Stanleys and the Anydays and his design work for 'Designs for Drummers' can be seen up and down the country, adorning the drums of Steve White, Ian Palmer, Craig Blundell, Martin Ranscombe, James Birt, Doc Spoons, Bob Armstrong and many others.
Alex is currently taking on drum students in the Oxford area - (minimum age 10 years - must be willing to practice daily)
