About Me

Measure your life in love...
My first and foremost loves are my kids, hubby and step-grandchildren.
I hope when I'm gone that I've made a difference in the life of a child.
My passions include being engrossed in an excellent book, listening to music that touches my soul, traveling to and exploring new places, photographing my adventures, artistic gardening, and being a new middle aged poet.
I'm a huge Wisconsin Badgers sports fan!
We have season football tickets, but also like to attend
hockey and basketball games when we get a chance.
Congrats to Coach Bo Ryan and the basketball team
on their Big Ten Championship!
My favorite Badger fans - Bucky and Lara!

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
Max Ehrmann, Desiderata, 1952.

Jimi Hendrix: "When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace."
". . . you got to speak out against the madness
You got to speak your mind if you dare. . ."

Your Political Profile:
Overall:
15% Conservative,
85% Liberal How Liberal Or Conservative Are You?
John F. Kennedy:
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label
"Liberal?" If by "Liberal" they mean,
as they want people to believe,
someone who is soft in his policies abroad,
who is against local government,
and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then ...
we are not that kind of "Liberal."
But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead
and not behind,
someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions,
someone who cares about the welfare of the people --
their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs,
their civil rights, and their civil liberties --
someone who believes we can break through the stalemate
and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad,
if that is what they mean by a "Liberal,"
then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."

My new favorite love song:

by Ben Folds ~

Simon and Garfunkel
poets of my generation

The Dangling Conversation

Its a still life water color,
Of a now late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace
And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference,
Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.

And you read your Emily Dickinson,
And I my Robert Frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers
That measure what weve lost.
Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm,
Couplets out of rhyme,
In syncopated time
Lost in the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.

Yes, we speak of things that matter,
With words that must be said,
Can analysis be worthwhile?
Is the theater really dead?
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow,
I cannot feel your hand,
Youre a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation.
And the superficial sighs,
In the borders of our lives.

Blessed are the peacemakers:

A strong nation, like a strong person, can afford to be gentle, firm, thoughtful, and restrained. It can afford to extend a helping hand to others. It's a weak nation, like a weak person, that must behave with bluster and boasting and rashness and other signs of insecurity.
Jimmy Carter
The angel, Mattie Stepanek (bless his soul...)

Peace Pilgrim (1908 - 1981)
"This is the way of peace:
Overcome evil with good,
and falsehood with truth,
and hatred with love."

I also admire people who create beautiful things,
people who live every day as if it's their last,
and those who dance like no one's watching.

And I leave you on these notes:
