About Me

As a child Lawrence Petty (LP) grew up in Los Angeles in the 70’s then moved to San Francisco to study at The San Francisco Ballet School in 1987. LP grew to call San Francisco home. LP a.k.a Foxxee Brown was a tireless face on the House Music scene since it’s inception in the late 1980’s. Influenced by SF House Music pioneers Doc Martin, Pete Avila and Blackstone, Lawrence developed a taste for the communal vibe of the early house music scene as a teenager. First getting booked as a dancer/events choreographer and sideline DJ at city hotspots like Recess, Osmossis, Toon-Town, 1015 Folsom, and Spundae. During this time he established contacts, paving the way for a career that would eventually span close to two decades. The name Foxxee Brown, first established as a moniker during his seminal stint as journalist for URB Magazine, where he then moved on to a 10 year gig as Producer/DJ and Host of California’s longest running electronic dance music mix show “Your Mama’s House”. YMH was broadcast on the Bay-Area’s number 1 music station 106 KMEL JAMS.
The show afforded Lawrence a unique opportunity to interface with some of dance music‘s most influential and inspiring artists, DJ’s and producers. “Your Mama’s House” was very influential in getting underground anthems added to KMEL’s play list. Therefore helping countless singles to crossover onto the top 40 Billboard Pop Charts. He soon became the voice of a club generation. Exposing America to groundbreaking artist such as, Daft Punk, Ultra Nate, Armand Van Helden, Masters at Work and Miguel Migs, to name but a few. Shortly after making waves in the Electronic Dance Music community with his mix-show, Lawrence was asked to join the stations morning show “Sway and the Breakfast Club”. His boisterous panache even inspired Tracy and Kenneth ’Babyface’ Edmonds, who had caught wind of his energy at a KMEL live performance, to develop a role for him in their 20th Century Fox feature film, 'Soul Food'. He played Harome, an over the top hairdresser. It is also known that film-maker Luc Besson modeled the character Ruby Rod in “The Fifth Element” after Foxxee’s outrageous on-air persona.
The progression from music lover to music maker was natural and logical. Lawrence’s desire to inspire dance floor bliss, evolving from his deep seated love of club culture had many producers excited to work with him. LP is one of the most sort after MCs, lending his vocal talents to numerous parties and raves throughout the Bay Area and LA. Bruno Ybarra (A&R head at I-Tunes) continually booked LP to MC Naked Music’s national events and monthly 'Scuba' parties in San Francisco. There, his energy on the mic inspired global DJ/Producer Miguel Migs to feature his vocals on the title track for the “Future Flight EP” (Large Records), which had much success on various dance music charts worldwide.
After being in the electronic music industry for nearly 20 years, LP has found his way back behind the Decks full time. His sound is an eclectic mix of heavy beats, soulful rhythms with a ghetto-tech sensibility. He has held extensive residencies in Los Angeles at Avalon, The Falcon and The Mor Bar. Lawrence Petty has played with the likes of Roger Sanchez, Danny Tenaglia, Derrick Carter, Green Velvet, Julius Papp, Berouhz, Hybrid, Groove Armada and many others.
He continues to MC and host events throughout Hollywood and other major cities in the US.You can also find his voice on DJ MFR's hit “Come go with me”(Transport Recordings) and “Moments of love” which is produced by David Harness.
