In 2002, the first line-up (Alessandro Queri- Guitars,vocals Alan Chiu- Lead guitars, JP Santiago- Bass, Nikki Alvarez- Drums) formed then named Postmortem that covered classics from Tool, Black Sabbath to 80's proto-thrash band, Discharge. Renamed Mass End Effect at the end of their first year, the band was able to compose several originals that later became the foundation for some Mass Defect songs. By the end of 2003, Mass End Effect disbanded for typical reasons.
Two years after disbanding MASS END EFFECT, the band was revived following a brief correspondence through the internet. By August of 2004, a new line-up emerged now as a three piece Grind assault. The band was renamed as MASS DEFECT and played their first gig as a more cohesive unit on January 2005. Despite the persistent gigs and unrelenting practice bouts, Mass Defect suffered line-up changes and slow progress. By May of 2005, the band was almost disbanded. An emergency recording session at ROE studios was called and 5 MASS DEFECT originals were put into tape and thereby assuring further survival for the band.
A new line-up was formed a year later. They still embody the raw and aggressive style of the previous line-up but with more speed and focus. Due to common influences, the sound naturally progressed to an irreverent combination of death metal, hardcore, thrash and grindcore.
With perseverance and a strong sense of domination, MASS DEFECT constantly improves and continues to storm the underground.
