Roma, mi amore

About Me

I have been told that I am rather intense, sweet, and a goofball. I can't deny any of those charges. I am a maker. I am constantly designing and it is my love that is always there for me. There is always another project, problem, or opportunity for greatness that I stive to achieve. What a lucky way to live...
I just moved back to Austin after 6 years in Vietnam and Thailand. Am I freaking out? Not too badly. I have some amazing friends that make living so wonderful. I am reminded everytime I see them how lucky I am to be here.
It is great being home in a new Golden Age of Austin. It is post-Les Amis but this is a thriving city, abiet small one. It is waiting to become a world city...let's watch!

My Interests

designing all kinds of stuff, great music, amazing food, learning as much about as many things as I can. I am focusing on futurist technologies and ancient civilizations... if you can call that focus. Creating and innovating. My work: PORTFOLIO

I'd like to meet:

A zany, delightful, brilliant and lusty woman. My balance. Someone to stir me up and settle me down. My yin.Someone to guide me back into my culture. I am as much a foreigner here as I ever was in Asia. Someone who eats - and loves to. Someone who drinks strong coffee in the morning after great sex. Someone who is generous with her smile and her laughter. Someone who sees my work is my center, my soul, and cannot be separated from my path, and who I am.If she isn't a vegetarian (life is so short to choose malnutrition), isn't a cat lover (super allergic) and speaks at least one foreign language that would be great ;)

Music:

house, lounge, hiphop, classical (well Baroque mainly), blues and a helluvalota James Brown these days...he is speaking to me more than ever...Tom Waits too. Manu Chao, Matt Dear - amazing DJ I saw in LA (thanks Brett and Tasha!)My dear friend's band Govinda never disappoints!update: billy holiday and this band justin sent my that he just discovered... haven't quite gotten my mind around them yet but I like where they are going - TV on the RadioI just got turned onto the Bravery and The Stock Market Crash at SXSW... oh and A Fine Frenzy... man there was some great music that week!

Movies:

Arty if isn't a pain in the ass. I wish I could say I only liked smart movies but goddamn if dumb movies aren't fun sometimes!

Television:

turned it off in 1992... amazing how much that helps

Books:

Bukowski, Camus, Doonesbury, Eco, Clavell, Robbins.... Raymond Chandler, Jared Diamond...David Mitchell is my new FAV. Ghost Written, Cloud Atlas are excellent books. Such intricate naratives and times and personalities... I love where he takes meI got to read two books on my week in Europe... it was heaven

Bad Kitty - Get out of my mind! Toxoplasma Gondii

Some people have asked my why I dislike cats. Allergies are part of it. Their general attitude is another but the real answer is that they have parasites that lay eggs in your brain and control your b...

inside out

I spent the day getting my outside changed to kick my inside's ass. Was Jon d's haircut enough to cure my mood today? No but damn it sure helped. Somedays you can't even see the truth you know, that e...

speaking of fear...

I just brought my dad back from the CAT scan office. It is really hard to see the people you love suffering. Hopefully, this will be the information the doctors need to find their way out of this mess...

change

sometimes you just have to let things go... let people be who they are... you can force things. Surrender to the inevitability that people are who they are.I must remember this.

My father and I were sitting next to a nice oak fire that I had built and been burning over the last three days when the sound of a jet appeared in the middle of the chimeny. Yes a nice little chimney...

Austin: The Base of the Pyramid

Last night in Austin, I was struck by the range of performance and forms of creativity that I squeezed out of the dim lit and aptly named, Karma lounge. Last night was a heroic tribute to a much loved...
