City Council Denies Public Comment today while South Central Farm is bulldozed
At Least 8 Arrests as Farmers and Farm Supporters Attempt to Save The Farm by Climbing Trees and Entering Farm
Despite the fact that South Central Farmers have continued positive outreach efforts towards developer Ralph Horowitz, his bulldozers accompanied by LAPD have destroyed at least 50% of the 14 acre, 14 year old farm. Farmers and farm supporters are flocking to the scene today, many of them throwing themselves onto the farm as a last effort to save the many rare and precious plants and trees, some of which are protected under city law.
Just one day after Independence Day, City Council members refused public comment in today’s open meeting denying Los Angeles residents their 1st Amendment right to address publicly elected officials. This was also a direct violation of the Brown Act. The issue of failed justice began when Horowitz bought the land from the City of Los Angeles in a closed deal for 5 Million Dollars when it was worth 13.3 Million in 1994. This sale will be contested in a court case on July 12. Los Angeles residents are outraged that the city of Los Angeles squandered important city monies in this deal that could have been used for other city business.
“Today the bulldozing of 14 years of hard work is heart breaking and unconscionable especially considering how far the farmers and community supporters have stretched to reach out to meet Horowitz’ demands. What we see on every level of this issue is ultimately a failure in justice and respect. In the midst of the heart break and devastation, we stand committed that this land be bought back and remain under the governance of the South Central Farmersâ€, said Julia Butterfly Hill today.
The vision for South Central Farm includes a community center for children of this and surrounding neighborhoods. Only last week City Council Person Jan Perry addressed the violence problem in her District 9 as residents were outraged by the violent and unnecessary death of 3 young people just one mile from the farm.

Click here for latest updates from SouthCentralFarmersHi, welcome to Zetsuai's political ultra-ego page!! Yes, I'm the same Zetsuai1989 anime girl (see my frenz list!) but I needed more space to dedicate to the URGENT SOUTH CENTRAL FARMERS issue at hand. South Central Farmers have received an EVICTION NOTICE in the last week after losing a 3-yr battle to regain their land permanently from the multi-millionaire developer RALPH HOROWITZ who bought back the land taken by emminent domain by the city more than a decade ago.
HOWEVER!! Was it really legal or even moral for the city of Los Angeles to sell back the land to the developer GROSSLY UNDER MARKET VALUE in a BEHIND THE DOOR TRANSACTION, not ever notifying the people who work the land in question?? AND THEN, this MILLIONAIRE DEVELOPER demanding these poor sustinance farmers to BUY BACK THE LAND FOR CURRENT MARKET VALUE if they want to stay???
