The OIYGC was founded in August of 1997 under the direction of Rahsaan Ellison. This Choir
was founded to demonstrate what is possible from an organization that gathers together youth
from diverse backgrounds and offers a common focus and activity that blends them together;
fostering friendship, understanding and personal growth. The Choir consists of youth ranging
in age of eleven to twenty-one years old. Youth in the Choir are from the Greater Oakland Bay
Area; including Marin-San Rafael and San Francisco.The Youth Choir has seen some dramatic changes in their diversity as well as parent
participation. The Parents have organized to help strengthen and develop the organization so
that the Choir can perform at its maximum potential. Parents are researching funding sources
as well as fund raisers to help stabilize the choir financially.The Choir has participated and performed at a variety of events which include the World Cup
Games, Multicultural Benefit of the Diocese of Oakland, Oakland Museum's Juneteenth
Celebration, Jewish Musical Festival, live recording with Jazz Musician Victor Fields, Alameda
County Fair and the first Annual participate and record for a special inter-faith session that will
be distributed worldwide in July of this year. In addition, the choir yearly sponsors an annual
Spring Concert as well as a Christmas Concert. The Youth Choir has just completed recording
a special track that include original song written by their Director. Our goal for the choir is to
increase our diversity as well as our size and to involve any Youth in the area interested in
singing Gospel Music. We feel that the use of Gospel Music as and avenue to increase
awareness of diversity, foster and environment of working together as well as excellent music
ability will help to strengthen our youth that they may become viable adults in our community.We are a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) organization and greatly appreciate your tax-deductible gifts. Our
