In today's music culture, there are very few artists who try to embody and become the word "change". The rap game, as most have noticed, has become flooded with mediocre, uncreative music and is in desperate need of salvation. It seems that the creators and consumers of hip hop music have become disturbingly content with the message being portrayed by one of the most groundbreaking forms of creative expression: Hip Hop.
M2 (Malcolm Wells II) was born on October 16, 1985 in Indianapolis, Indiana. From the moment of his birth, it was clear that he was destined to be something special. He displayed, almost immediatly, a yerning desire to learn and soak up information. By the time he was four years old he was deemed a genious and people around him were already trying to predict what great deeds he would accomplish in his life.
Fast forward twenty-two years and become acquainted with the man he is today. After ignoring all of his potential to pursue a life of fast money, violence and betrayal, he now has re-focused himself to do the one thing the he truly loves: making music.
He draws his inspiration from the struggle that he himself has been through but even more-so from what others have been through and continue to endure. His almost other-worldly intellegence has allowed him to evaluate not only the state of music but also the state of society and how it is reflected in our music.
"People just don't see what is happening around us," he said during our conversation. "It seems that all we're focused on is making it and being successful independent of our surroundings. We don't stop to realize that if we were to embrace a more positive lifestyle as a collective unit, we would be more able to cause a serious change in our environment. That's never gonna happen though. People are waaay too selfish and caught up in their own motives to see the truth... We are all pawns. All I can do is know that I have the potential to be anything I want to be... And then make sure that each move I make is from the heart... With a little patience, focus and faith, I'll become what I'm destined to become. Even if I die before I reach my 'final' goals, everytime I make a song I'm fulfilling my purpose... That's what my music is all about... Being the best person I can be, in the most honest way possible..."
