Kari Jess (real name Kari Watkins), was born and raised in Jamaica and has been in the music business since the age of 16.
Now 24, he's ready to break down barriers and set a name for himself internationally. With his first single "HAFFI TIGHT" on the Red Bull and Guiness riddim getting alot of air play and requests in Jamaica and Europe, there is no doubt he's about to take reggae to another level.
Kari Jess is full of melody, style and flavour and with the ability to sing, deejay and sing-jay this puts him in on a level on his own. Kari jess says growing up in Prembroke Hall, Jamaica, makes it much easier for him to express what life was like as a kid. Unlike every other artist who has a specific influence on their career, Kari's influences are his friends and himself. As he explains: " from I was little growing up I just loved music and appreciate any music that is good. So anyone that does good music is an influence to me".
When not in the studio or busy with music, Kari is either hustling to get through day by day, or writing more songs. With two major marketing teams, one in Jamaica and one in Miami working overtime to get him to the top and push out his first commercial single "Haffi Tight", there is no doubt that he will be the next big thing out of Jamaica. Kari Jess records dozens of songs daily, but the reaction he got from people who heard "HAFFI TIGHT" was so overwhelming it encouraged him to make that song the first single. Why should the world accept him as the next big thing? Kari answered that best when he said " My style, flow, writing and my delivery is just different from everything out there right now. I try my best to be creative". Kari Jess is working with Big Ship records right now to get his voice out, but he is also looking foward to working with other producers like Dave Kelly, Don Corleone and The Neptunes just to name a few.
We also touch on a softer side of Kari Jess, especially for the ladies. kari Jess is currently single and mainly focusing on his music but he did mention to us that every woman is special to him and when ready to find the right woman it's going to be about the simple things like kindness, sweetness, sexiness and she has to have her head on her body (no daff girls). There was also a rumor in Jamaica that he had a crush on Tami Chynn, but when confronted this is what kari had to say: " No sah, the belly tuck in and thing and she got the looks, but no". So ladies you still have a chance.
