About Me

Myspace Layouts at Pimp-My-Profile.com / Black & White

With a soulful, edgy rock sound, Martha has arrived as an artist whose voice reflects a powerful sexiness and innocence combined. Her driving vocals and warm, velvet tones give us an original sound not reflected on the current pop-rock scene, with influences that bring to mind Annie Lennox, George Michael, Amanda Marshall, and Johnette Napolitano to name a few. This beautiful young lady has already had enough experience behind the microphone and performing live with various groups to make us anxiously anticipate her solo recording debut.Born in Brooklyn, NY, Martha began singing at an early age in her parents living room and quickly moved on to school glee clubs and community musical theater productions. After a brief stint at NYUs Tisch School of the Arts, Martha decided that her pursuit of a music career needed more time than her academic schedule was permitting and started hitting the streets, singing her heart out at auditions. She succeeded in securing a spot in EYEZ, an urban pop all-girl group, a la En Vogue, with ties to famous hip-hop artist/producers Missy Elliott and Timbaland. After spending a year performing and singing with the group, Martha quickly realized that she had grown so much as a performer that it was time to begin working on her career as a solo artist. She returned to her acting roots and started booking spots in tv commercials, industrials, print work, landing the female lead role in the off-off bway production of a new rock opera, Piper's Song, and most recently the female lead in off-bway's STAIRWAY TO HELL, a heavy metal rock show being produced in collaboration with VH1, CBS, and Baseline Entertainment. If that alone weren't enough to make her a star-in-waiting, Martha started writing and performing her own solo material around town at venues such as the Rockwood Musichall and others. Currently, she is looking into some new projects and looking to collaborate with some heavy hitters in the music industry--whether it be fronting a new or established rock band, writing songs, or singing at live shows.Quite simply, Martha Velasquez is an artist who's time has come.
