A Bit of History:
Good things come to those who wait. What we began as an experiment in free-asociation recording has quickly grown into the most ground-breaking project either of us have ever been a part of, but our work together as musicians wasn't always this way. For three years we struggled together within a band named Lunar Acumen, rising slowly in Baltimore's indie rock scene, writing, recording, and practicing endlessly; performing intense live shows in several of our most beloved local venues. When that band finally met its end, we thought for a time that all our effort had been wasted. It was a short while, however, before Justin Livi and I--Evan Fuller; I'd prefer to address you directly and spare the tedious self-importance of writing in the third person--began to see the fruit of our labor.
One day, the two of us met in Justin's basement and began experimenting with some poetry and music he had written. As the words and the music began to flow together, we realized that we much preferred to make music this way, to create songs that could be viewed only as a whole, eliminating subdivisions of verse and chorus. We began to write as we recorded, adding elements to each song as it took shape. We'd worry about target audiences and setlists and whatnot later, we decided. We'd rather simply create beautiful music first.
The music of A Tainted Image was formed on that simple principle. It is atmospheric, unnerving and enchanting, but above all our music is honest. Every word is written with utmost openness and candor, and every note recorded helps to make each arrangement much more than a mere song. Our goal in writing every piece is to create a place, an immersive atmosphere in which the listener can lose himself entirely.
We record and produce all of our music in-house, allowing for a more complete level of creative control over the outcome of our work. We have been building our studio for the past several years, and continue to do so.
We have completed work on a six-song EP, entitled Sons. We've released it in very limited numbers and are hoping for a larger-scale release sometime in the near future. We are currently writing and recording a full-length, tentatively titled Sins. We'll let you know as soon as we do when it can be expected.
We strive for utmost originality and innovation. I'm sure all of you have heard that claim ten thousand times from ten thousand bands, and I'm sure quite a few of them have fallen short of that promise. Listen to our music, and I'm positive that you'll find it affirms every word of this claim.
