Influences: Where does anyone start? I do like loads of stuff, but I feel duty bound to start with the greatest composer known to me. He is 7PD. Seven Pin Dinner is an astonishing producer of electronica, from Luton, residing in Brighton. I love you Duncan, may you continue to do the Voodoo that you do so well for ages yet. Look him up he will not let you down. Next I'm gonna go with Jamie Lidell, and Tim Exile, people who have got the talent and the balls to get up there and loop and multi layer their own improvised vocal performances on the spot. I dont think anyone who has seen that sort of thing being done could fail to be moved and affected by it. I saw Supercollider (Lidell and Christian Vogel) at Fabric around the time of Head On being new, and followed them back stage to tell them how much I loved their music. Christian said something like "you better talk to him, he does most of them". I met Squarepusher (Tom Jenkinson), at the launch party of Luke Viberts YosepH at Plastic People. Tom was very down to earth. I love both these artists in all their guises n AKAs. I cant mention Tom without a shout to Andy his Bruv, who mixes up top-notch acidy stuff. I met Andy in Brighton the night Joan as Police Woman played (Dec06). He was partying hard, and was a very friendly bloke. I can't say enough about Michael Paradinas, who has produced some groovy, spectacular, breathtaking, and terrifying music in his time. His label is in one the premier electronic record labels in the UK (and the world). Good old Dickey Richard D James, the number of times Alberto Balsam has reduced me to tears is beyond my recollection. From Autobulbs to Analords he is a truly remarkable genius. (Am I sucking enough cock here? Sorry!) I love PJ Harvey her songs are astonishing. I am a massive fan of Ann Magnuson, and I love all the Bongwater stuff. I remember hearing The Power of Pussy for the first time and just having utter adoration for every second of it. Thanks for that, it has been a source of warmth, comfort, laughter, tears, and inspiration. Pretty Songs & Ugly Stories is out now. I am the proud owner of a personalized autographed copy of The Luv Show. I cant mention Bongwater without mentioning Mark Kramer, an astonishing bass guitar player and music producer. List time In no particular order Herbaliser, Orbital, Mr. Scruff, Disposable Heroes of Hphoprisy, Handsom Boy Modeling School, Bjork, The Polyphonic Spree, Plaid, Brad (Shame), Bogdan Raczynski, Deadly Avenger, Frankie goes to Hollywood (Holly Johnson once said that the sunrises from Gambia Terrace were the most beautiful in the world, and he was not wrong.) N.W.A., Etienne De Crecy, Ian Dury (I met him briefly whilst helping care for his mother), Massive Attack, LFO, Dee Jay Punk-Roc, HÃ¥kan Lidbo, Boards of Canada, Capitol K (harassed him at one of his gigs and got a picture of me and a friend standing either side of him, darling man), Morrissey, Charli Baltimore (particularly money), Cornelius, Shabusashirazu (what an act!), Happy Mondays, Flowered up, Primal Scream, Warp, Ninja, Planet mu. And many, many more. Oh yeah, saw Hot Chip in Liverpool on 19th May and they really helped lift a very sad and emotional day. Check out The Warning.
