About Me
Thank you for taking the time to check out my page. My name Is Israel(Izzy) I am a Songwriter / Producer / Guitarist seeking a Publishing deal, contacts and others to collaborate with musically .Well as it turns out, My Space is just the place for that as well as a great place to make new friends and discover new music!! I have found some great music I would have never found otherwise.
In trying to showcase my versatility as a Songwriter and Producer you will find the production, vibe and feel all over the place. At first I wasn't quite so sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but as I'm finding out more and more, music enthusiasts have a wider and more eclectic taste in music than ever before!! So I guess it's feeling more like it's a good thing. I hope you enjoy the music. Any comments or critiques will be very much appreciated.
First of all I would like to say how blessed and fortunate I am to have such a great circle of friends. Not only are they genuinely good people they are amazing musicians as well. I Thank you all from the very bottom of my heart for enhancing my life with your company and my music with the tracks you have all contributed. Again, I can't thank you all enough. I'm sorry I can't remember exactly who played what and when because all these songs were recorded in such a casual environment. Guess I should have written it down.
First there's Jere the human jukebox Landis. We call him that because the guy can play anything. He added guitar, bass and piano parts on many tracks and he knows harmony inside and out. The backing oohhs and aahhs on Thick Skin are all him!! Then there's Michael Collins formally of the Red Sector and now with Throwback Suburbia. What a Godsend to have a real drummer play on your tracks an amazing drummer at that. Although my songs don't really showcase the serious chops Michael's capable of, check out the bad-ass drumming on Do you Hear what I Hear and Gloria on Izz- n- Jere's Magic Box. A Collection of rocking Christmas tunes. Those will be posted as we get closer to Christmas time. Michael's a very gifted songwriter as well. I remember many of our brainstorming/ bounce ideas off each other sessions. Michael has really helped me grow as a songwriter. Larry Martinez Bassist for the Debbie Graham band. If youre ever in Salt Lake or Los Angeles check them out. They will floor you!! Larrys got to be the happiest guy Ive ever met. Especially now that he is a proud new dad!! I don't think Larry is even capable of being in a bad mood. He's as solid as they come. Check out his groove on Buzz. Then there's the lovely and talented Natalie Doyle. Such a beautiful voice and good pop sensibility. Lacy Johnson one of the most naturally musically gifted people I have ever met!! Thanks to Geoff Byrd for the silky smooth vocal track on How will you know. Rainee Purdue for that perfect, bitter sweet vocal track on Thick skin. I can't thank you all enough.
Well as far as me goes Well gosh lets see where do I begin. I grew up in a very musical family; everyone in my family plays an instrument and sings. I started listening to my older brothers records at about J.R High, The Beatles, Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. I was immediately hooked!! I have loved rock and roll music ever since. In High School I really got into bands like Van Halen, Aerosmith, and Ozzy (Randy Rhodes what an amazing guitar player!!!) Back then I focused solely on guitar playing and didn't really appreciate the craft of songwriting until about 7 years ago. And now that Im just a little older and mature ( kind of anyway ) I listen to stuff like Jellyfish, Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson and my absolute favorite songwriter at the moment is Butch Walker. Man the guy can write hooks!!!
I've been pretty much self taught, bought a guitar listened to the song to learn how to play it, got a mixer plugged it in turn the knobs and try to get a decent sound, got some drums and a keyboard then really started to hack it up !! Thank god for midi sequencing and a circle of extremely talented friends to lend a hand!! Listened to my favorite songwriters and try to emulate the way they paint pictures with their words and weave the melody just right to sit on top of the perfect arrangement, and although some of my songs may not be up to par to where I would like them to be or where others think they should be, All that really matters is that I enjoyed writing them. Even the shitty ones you will never hear, but little by little they keep getting a little better. You see songs are kind of like your own kids, sometimes they won't always do what you'd like, and not everyone can understand them like you do, but you love them unconditionally anyway, and if you keep nurturing them and have a little faith you'll see they will turn out just fine.
I feel so lucky and fortunate to live in an age where the common man (or woman) can have a personal home studio that rivals the BIG dollar studios of 30 years ago, although there's a lot to be said about working within the confines of limited resources. Queen's Night at the Opera was recorded on an 8 track recorder!!! Some of the Beatles best stuff on a 4 track recorder!! With all the editing done with glue and a razor blade!! Hard to imagine now isn't it. The things we take for granted I tell ya....
