Just a Fling
A consistent lead singer flanked by sweaty stud guitar players in hotpants and pink stockings. It has been a long time since the norwegian concert arena has seen anything like this. Just a Fling is in town.
The band has just finished their debut album, and the singel â€Blindfold†together with a music video is set to be released this spring. Guru and hero Ryan Green (producer of amongst No Use For A Name, NOFX, Bad Religion, Authority Zero, Me First & The Gimme Gimmes, Lagwagon, Sick Of It All, Megadeth) has turned the right switches and made a great mix of the album.
Just a Fling was formed in 2002 in Oslo out of a mutual love for teenage punk/rock. Four postpubertal young men met in the crossfire between skateboardrock og high school-punk. The band consists of Jørgen Keiserud (age 28, Jay) on guitar and lead vocals, Øistein Fjæra (age 22, Austin) on bass and lead vocals, Sverre Dagestad (age 28, Lerd) on guitar and backing vocals and Espen Hornburg (age 29) on drums and backing vocals. The fact that they are no longer brats allows them an ironic view at the genre, which works really good both live and in the studio.
In 2003 Just a Fling released their first EP, "Wanna see my stamp-collection?", on their own label, Fling Records. The singel taken from the EP, "One of these days", received good reviews and the music video was frequently aired on national broadcasting stations in Norway. Live footage from the song "Struck and Found" was aired daily on local tv stations in 2004. The same year a new EP, â€Friday Nightâ€, was released. Just a Fling was also a participant of the norwegian project for the poor and homeless in Oslo, Prosjekt 101, in 2006. The project released a trippel cd which included, other than Just a Fling, great bands like Turboneger, We, Bloodlights and other national and international known norwegian bands and artists (www.prosjekt101.no).
The debut album was recorded at the Tank in Oslo. The producers count Fridtjof Nilsen, Fredrik Wallumrød og Kim Nordbæk, all former Span members and now Dog Almighty. Ryan Greene at Crush Recordings in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA has mixed the album. The record is mastered in Sweden at Cutting Room, one of Scandinavias foremost mastering companies.
Just a Fling has frequently played in the eastern parts of Norway and a couple of shows in Spain (showcase at Sidecar Factory Club in Barcelona in 2004). A lot of time has been invested in the production, but the band is now eager to give the fans something they are not fully aware of desiring. In custom made clothes (to girls to be precise - hotpants and pink stockings), the band always put on a good show which doesn’t leave much to the imagination. As well as rock makes you sweat, both boys and girls in all ages can look forward to rock performed in gay erotic manner, which they can laugh at, but at the same time enjoy.
Additionally, Just a Fling - together with designers - has developed a clothing line called Just a Fling Clothing. Not similar to the traditional band merchandise, the clothing line consist of t-shirts, long-sleeves, tank tops, briefs, pants, wrist & head bands, piques, hoods etc. Check out the website for Just a Fling Clothing - www.flng.no.
