About Me

Defcon was formed in the summer of 1987 in Akron, Ohio. Mark Matthews, Tony Artino and Nick LePar had previously played together in various Cleveland/Akron based cover bands throughout the mid eighties. From it's conception, Defcon forged ahead in the Cleveland/Akron music scene playing the areas most prestigious venues to standing room only audiences. Freddie Salem of The Outlaws, a great friend to the band, helped Defcon secure a production deal which ultimately moved the group to Chicago, Illinois in the fall of 1988. While in Chicago, Defcon had the opportunity to record along side of some great musicians/producers including Rudy Sarzo of Whitesnake and Frankie Sullivan of Survivor. The group would go on to be featured in many news articles and international magazine publications creating pockets of fans throughout the world. After several close record deals and countless performances across the United States, the group eventually moved back home to Akron in the spring of 1991 where they continued to perform until they disbanded later that year. Although Defcon has had some extremely talented fourth member musicians along their journey, the original power trio has always been the heart and soul of the band. Be on the lookout for some new material and a possible reunion in the near future.
