Formerly Known as BLISTER
We’ll cut to the chase; it went downhill in 1996 when six ambitious 12-year olds formed a Seattle driven ‘The Sternumsâ€, two of which (Azim and Fikri) are still in the current line-up. In 1999, melodic punk-rock began to consume the young lads, Bukit Damansara witnessed the birth of Blister, a by-product of suburbia gone terribly wrong. They recorded their first demo entitled “Space: Between me and her†at numerous locations in 2001 which hit June 2002’s Demo of the month in now defunct ‘Tone’ Magazine. The band hit the studio again in 2002, with four unreleased tracks in what was meant to be “Operation : Jumbojet†but as college duty called, Blister paused into a 4-year hiatus. The unreleased “Operation : Jumbojet†tracks were given to a charity compilation under “Little Jerk Records’ which featured The Shitworkers, Spunky Funggy, Pusher and such.
Having little or no media coverage (underground and mainstream), Blister managed to capture hearts of a few. The band has been the predecessor to other bands who have covered its songs namely their bilingual tune called “Unknown†from their first demo. Surprisingly, word of mouth has gotten Blister as far as the UK among homesick Malaysian students studying abroad. Just like Malaysian food, the band served as a novelty that reminds them of home.Over the years, the band has collected its fair share of recognition amongst its peers and as far as politics are concerned, being neither here nor there, the band has been all the way up, down, left and right. After graduation, Blister reformed in 2006 and changed its name to what is now ‘The Eleanor Shotgun Affair’.
A verse from their song entitled ‘The Pretender’ reads:
“Time changes mentality,
now that I’ve realized that I was naïve,
There are moments that we stole,
and stories that we told,
and I hope that you’ll forgive me,
for all the promises I brokeâ€.
