An immigrant with a dream to become successful in the
land of the free is a dream far too common till this
day. Shorty Ranks born Jorge Adames was born and
raised in "Santiago De Los Caballeros" aka Cibao in
the Dominican Republic till the age of 13. In search
of a better life as most parents are, leaving behind
their native homeland, they decided to migrate to the
United States in 1992. From his youth till this day
he resides in Corona Queens in New York City.
Influenced by the reggae and Hip-Hop music of the
times, Shorty began to write rhymes in his bedroom as
a vague hobby. In 1992 he formed a group with Bim, a
fellow classmate called "El Sis y El Bim" and began
recording live songs with a Tascam 4 track recorder
and a Technic turntable. With their songs recorded,
they began to perform at local parties in their
neighborhood. WIth both artists having completely
different styles where as one was rapping and the
other was chanting, the response wasn't well. Shorty
and Bim decided to part ways due to creative
differences and move on. With a dream and a will,
Shorty continued to pursue his goals and formed yet
another group with two friends called "La Magia
Negra." After dropping a mixtape titled "Tengo Hambre
y Tengo que comer" and rocking shows in local clubs,
things seemed very promising up until 2004 when one of
the group members "Morenito" was arrested and
sentenced to 5 years in prison. With a group member
missing. the group began to become more and more
inactive and another member "Melito had gotten married
and became a family man. Now with both members out of
the picture, Shorty continued on with his passion and
decided to begin a solo career calling himself "Shorty
Ranks," adopting the last name of his most favorite
Reggae artist "Shabba Ranks" Shortys style was
considered Spanish Reggae with a twist of Hip-Hop"
up until one time when a friend was playing a
Reggaeton cd out of his car, he fell in love with the
music and switched his style to become a Reggaeton
artist. In 2005 he began creating a buzz and
building a reputation up all by himself not only in
his neighborhood, but throughout the 5 boroughs in
New York City where it caught the attention of a
group of Producers in the Bronx called "Los Pioneros."
While putting in work with "Los Pioneros" a cd fell
into the hands of K.S, another Corona Queens native
from Shortys neighborhood who had just started an
Independent Record Label by the name of 40Below
Entertainment. K.S. was so impressed with Shorty
Ranks' music that he Immediately signed him to his
record label. Now in 2006 Shorty Ranks is currently
working on his solo album Titled "La Tormenta" and is
ready to take the Reggaeton and Latin Hip-Hop world by
storm. Not being compared to anyone else, Shorty
Ranks is a new breed of Latin Music with his Reggae
and Hip-Hop influences that you can easily hear when
you play one of his songs. From the up tempo dancing
reggaeton to the slower more reggae like to the hard
hitting Hip-Hop joints, Shorty Ranks is guaranteed to
get you singing one of his catchy hooks without you
even noticing it. He is for sure due to be a house
hold name in the latin world. For more info on Shorty
