About Me

The Little Review, a four headed indie/rock band from the south-west of the Netherlands. The band is named after a literary magazine from the 1920’s. Gwie Jean, lead guitar, says: ’We had been looking for a new band name for a little while now. While I was surfing on the Internet I came across a website which had written an article about ‘Little Review’ (the magazine). This fascinated me and later on we choose it as our band name’.
‘In the upcoming weeks we’re going to drop our new demo and we’re very excited’, says Timothy Maurer (lead singer, 2nd guitar and songwriter). They’ve been working very hard with producer Hans Schot. ‘We came across him thanks to Laurens, our drummer, and after some references and meetings we decided that he was going to be the one that was going to record and produce our new demo’, says Jasper Stuart (bass guitar).
The Little Review is: Timothy Maurer (lead singer, 2nd guitar and songwriter), Gwie Jean (lead guitar) , Laurens van Borssum Waalkes (drums) and Jasper Stuart (bass guitar).
It started in the beginning of 2005 when Timothy Maurer and Gwie Jean wanted to form a new band. The two, who had known each other for a long time had a similar taste in music. They both played the guitar and Timothy was already a singer/songwriter. After some rehearsing the two friends wanted someone to participate on bass and they also required some drums. It wasn’t hard for them to find a bass player. A good friend of them, Jasper Stuart, was an excellent candidate. The three friends rehearsed together and knew that one essential thing was still missing, drums. After contacting several people, Timothy asked Laurens van Borssum Waalkes, a good friend and former classmate, if he wanted to join the band as their drummer. Laurens accepted the offer. In august 2005 the band was finally complete and some serious rehearsals took place. After a short while five songs were created and the band played a gig at their high school. They got loads and loads of positive reactions and this inspired the band to create more songs and play more gigs. A couple of months later they amazed the visitors of a local pub with their performance. Since then The Little Review, which was first known as Strawberry Fields, have played a lot of gigs and the positive reactions keep on coming.
And as a great philosopher squirrel once said: ‘Today your nuts, tomorrow the world’.
