The Truth is not an easy path

About Me

I'm in the process of developing my own roleplaying game! Click the pic to visit my site!
Click .. Here
It's under construction, so visit back regularly for updates. I'm a 33 y/o goofball from the Dallas area with rather offbeat tastes but I'm not so far out there that people can't relate. I'm a computer-science major (in my junior year) who got a rather "late" start in college because of my six years I had served in the U.S. Army . I worked as a utility helicopter repairer and crew chief on UH-1 ("Huey") helicopters before they had been phased out of the active Army for Black Hawks. I served in two MEDEVAC units (571st Med. Co., in Colorado, and 82nd Med. Co., in Kansas), as well as in an intermediate maintenance unit in South Korea. I currently work in the IT industry but I plan on moving into the PC gaming industry once I get my degree. I specialize in the C++ programming language .My chief goal in life is to explore Truth; whether it has many forms or one Universal form.I have a sick fondness for Red vs. Blue and for Order of the Stick !

My Interests

I enjoy sports, particularly American football and ice hockey . My favorite professional sports teams are the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Stars . My favorite college team is the Arkansas Razorbacks . I love the outdoors, particularly if there is water involved. I enjoy both water skiing and snow skiing, and I'd like to think that I pick up on most activities pretty quickly. When I get the opportunity, I crave traveling to interesting destinations...particularly those that offer both fun and learning experiences. I'm very much a "gaming enthusiast" (which is code for "gaming geek"). I prefer PC games, but I also enjoy console and tabletop games. The two tabletop role-playing games that I play most are Dungeons & Dragons and Call of Cthulhu , though I've at least tried many other systems and am also willing to try a lot more. And, of course, I'm creating my own system. I greatly enjoy studying ancient history, particularly alternative views on the past. I particularly enjoy the ancient Sumerian , Egyptian , and Mesoamerican cultures. I also have a passion for lighthouses . Below are my favorite top 10 games (PC and console) of all time. I have placed a series of games together unless one game in the series is obviously superior (or inferior) to the others:

  • DOOM I (1993,PC) and II (1994,PC)
  • Baldur's Gate I (1998,PC) and II (2000,PC), plus expansions
  • Halo:CE (2001,XBox), II (2004,XBox), and III (2007,XBox 360)
  • Half-Life I (1998,PC) and II (2004,PC), plus expansions
  • Zork text-game series (1980-1988,PC); actually, practically any Infocom text game could go here
  • SSI AD&D series, particularly Pool of Radiance (1988,PC), Curse of the Azure Bonds (1989,PC), and Secret of the Silver Blades (1990,PC)
  • Fallout I (1997,PC) and II (1998,PC)
  • Resident Evil (1996,PS1)
  • Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006,PC or XBox 360)
  • Thief I (1998,PC), II (2000,PC) and III (2004,PC or XBox)
  • I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet practically anyone on my Friends list whom I haven't already met in person. Additionally, there are several scholars of ancient history I'd love to meet, particularly those of a "self-professed" scholarly nature and/or those who espouse an "alternative" theory of history (i.e., Sitchin, Hancock, Robert Bauval). I'd like to strengthen my opinion as to if any of them are prophet/genius, misled, or simply fraud. I'd also love to meet many pioneers of the computer gaming industry (John Carmack, Scott Adams, Richard Garriot, Sid Meier, John Romero, Roberta Williams, the founders of Infocom, etc.).

    Music:

I follow genres and good music more than I do bands. I must admit that I'm rather "bipolar" in my musical tastes. On the soft side, I enjoy classical , movie soundtracks or game music ...but on the bang-your-head, make-your-ears-bleed side...nothing beats a gooood dose of heavy f*ckin' metal ! When I feel like it, I may list some bands to whom I enjoy listening.

    Movies:

While I have watched MANY other movies that I enjoy, these are the movies that I can and have watched countless times...and they still never get old: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Disney's Aladdin, Alien, Aliens, Apocalypse Now!, Bachelor Party, The Bourne Identity (2002), Braveheart, Clash of the Titans, Conan the Barbarian, Dumb and Dumber, Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness, Excalibur, Friday, Full Metal Jacket, Gladiator, Indiana Jones trilogy, The Last of the Mohicans, The Matrix, Men in Black I and II, Monty Python movies, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, National Lampoon's Vacation, National Lampoon's Van Wilder, Office Space, Pirates of the Caribbean, Schindler's List, The Shawshank Redemption, The Sixth Sense, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Spaceballs, Spartacus, Star Wars (ep. IV-VI) , Super Troopers, (The) Terminator I and II, This is Spinal Tap, Tombstone, The Wedding Crashers MY TOP TEN:

  • Ben-Hur (1959)
  • Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail
  • The Lord of the Rings trilogy
  • Ferris Bueller's Day Off
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Caddyshack
  • The Princess Bride
  • The Silence of the Lambs
  • Se7en
  • Television:

Despite the significant number of television programs that I have enjoyed, I am not a huge TV watcher. When I do watch television, I usually wish to learn something new. Thus, I tend to watch The History Channel , The Learning Channel , The Discovery Channel , A&E , PBS , or Court TV . I watch my favorite sports teams play, of course. I do, however, have a weakness for British comedy. For the most part, British comedy seems to push the envelope a lot more on wit, taste (and lack thereof), and parody/satire than does American comedy. Refreshingly, however, cable TV is certainly expanding the creative liberties of American television in general. Some of my all-time favorite British comedies are 'Allo 'Allo , Absolutely Fabulous , Black Adder , Coupling , Fawlty Towers , Monty Python's Flying Circus , and Red Dwarf .
I'm certainly not completely down on American television. Three series that I currently enjoy are Battlestar Galactica , Rescue Me , and Rome . For those fellow nerds who remember Dr. Who...it's BACK and modernized! You can visit the official site right here !

    Books:

My taste in books are much like my taste in television: I prefer nonfictional books with subjects that fall into my areas of interest. However, some fantastic fictional works have made it onto my list. I will update periodically:

Adams, Douglas : The More Than Complete Hitchhiker's Guide Carroll, Lewis : Alice in WonderlandDoyle, Sir Arthur Conan: Sherlock Holmes Mysteries Godwin, Malcolm: Angels: An Endangered Species Hancock, Graham : Fingerprints of the GodsJordan, Robert: The Wheel of Time series Sitchin, Zechariah : The Earth Chronicles series Sun-Tzu: The Art of War Tolkien, J.R.R : The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The SilmarillionZaehner, R.C.: The Dawn and Twilight of Zoroastrianism

    Heroes:

I'm my hero, because I'm going to take over the worrllllddddd......Oh, and these guys get honorable mention. Click their pics for myspace profiles:

How the media and advertising bastardize the English language

It is beginning to drive me crazy how the media and advertising make irresponsible use of the English language and poorly hidden fallacies to push an issue, push an event, or push a product....

    Deep Thoughts...by Jack Handey

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and th...
