About Me
Rock, Pop, Alternative Its all a deception. Music is music and the guys of My Deception are more into making good music than they are into fitting into anyones perception of what they should be. Fans have compared their music to the Goo Goo Dolls, while others hear similarites to All American Rejects or Cold Play. We dont care who or what people compare us to. they can compare us to the Beatles, so long as they listen to the music, connect to the lyrics and get a good vibe, lead singer James Zachary said.It is the songwriting that distinguishes my deception above all else. While the reflective Zachary is the songwriter of the group that has been together since their earliest performances in rural Tennessee, he sees the songs in many ways as a collaborative effort. When I write I am usually alone. Heck, its usually in the middle of the night when stuff is just buzzing through my head. Sometimes its the music. sometimes its the words. Sometimes it just all comes crashing through at once. There is no real method, but as a band, we are all so close that I draw from their experiences as much as I do my own and after I lay down the progressions and the lyrics, everybody comes together and beefs up the arrangements.Infectious melodies, screaming guitar, resonating bass lines on top of an unmistakable back beat unexpectedly gives way to soulful refrains, heartfelt lyrics and distinctive slow-hand guitar riffs its all a part of the deception. The minute you think you have us figured out, were going change things up, Bassist Brandon day said. I guess we want our fans to identify with us, but we never want to be exactly what you expect us to be. Lifes too short to ever let it get boring.Hard hitting drummer Derek Wright, though the youngest member of band, grew up listening to classic 70s rock and brings those influences to My Deception, giving the band its heart beat. We are individuals, but once the drum sticks count us down, its symbionic Thats a bit of a deception, I guess. From their roots in East Tennessee, playing Knoxville and the Tri-Cities, to Atlanta and then finally the Nashville recording scene, My Deception continues to build a solid fan base wherever they play.We wont play a song live until we know weve got it right. We want our music to stick in your head from the frist time you hear it, Zachary said. Whether they are rocking out with Confessions or touching the heart with Sweet November once youve heard My Deception, there is no mistaking the sounds, the words the reality that is their deception.
