Consider a situation. You wake up on a Saturday morning with a broken nose, yet all you can remember from the night before is visual, aural, and spiritual enlightenment. You are without pants, yet strangely fulfilled. Chances are, you just experienced your first bout with the kick in the chest rock and roll of Hang The DJ. That, or you are reading a choose your own adventure book.
With niether humble nor impoverished beginnings in the sleepy province of Lititz, PA, Hang The DJ went through numerous lineup changes to arrive at their current 3 piece configuration. Lead singer and guitarist Colin D holds down the fortress with whooping crane calls and driving guitar work in the style of Ted Leo meets Ted Bundy. Hassan Ali wrestles a schizophrenic nightmare while battling the bass guitar, keyboards, vocals, and an inner desire for monkeys. He wins. J. Alexander Wash, our protagonist, provides the much needed machismo on drums and vocals to fuel a furnace of virility that can only be matched by the legendary Tom Selleck.
Hang The DJ is rock and roll. Their influences span the decades, taking an extra long pit stop in the pop/rock glory days of the 50's and 60's. Their sound is modern, yet authentic. Influences range from The Clash to The Shins, AFI to The Beatles, Rancid to The Four Seasons. In the land of Hang The DJ, the man with 33 hooks is king. Dancing at a show is mandatory, and the band will thrive aesthetically by the end of the set given the proper space, water and sunlight.
A recent move to Music City, a metaphorical bathtub filled with new songs, and more braggability than Martin Grammatica; Hang The DJ is taking their house by storm, then focusing on possibly branching out to the neighborhood.
