Scenery Channel Debut Album "Premiere"

There have been a flood of solid prog metal releases around here lately. For some reason I keep going back to this disc. The curiously named Scenery Channel is based out of Finland. Like their countrymates Silent Voices they play progressive metal but they approach it from the melodic end of the spectrum a la Enchant. From the opening instrumental "Overture 2015" you know what this band is about - Dream Theater obviously comes to mind, particularly from the keyboard work of Pasi Hillula which instantly reminds of Jordan Rudess. The band shows off with some fantastic chops and strong melodies. They don't go for super heaviness but they will blow you away with their soloing. Tommi Inkila has the Petrucci sound down and Mikko Lankinen does evoke James LaBrie in more than just passing but these are young guys and are sure to develop more of a unique sound in years to come. One listen is obvious - there is way too much talent here. This one was a fun listen and a must own for any fan of pure indulgent progressive metal that doesn't lose sight of the tune.

Sun Caged new aulbum "Artemisia"

Marcel Coenen returns with the second Sun Caged album and this time he's got a completely different cast of supporting characters. The music is still hi-intensity prog metal but it's not afraid to mellow out at times which is a nice change of pace. Some really sick soloing - not just on guitar but keys as well. I'm sure you expect nothing less...

Thought Chamber and Their Debut Album "Angular Perceptions"

Surprising new material, we recently have received from Inside Out records Angular Perceptions by Thought Chamber, a very respectable band formed by the well-know guitar player Michael Harris, we know his long path, excellent musician, he got some solo albums, his main characteristic is the originality, and Thought Chamber is not the exception; The front man is a top Vocalist, Ted Leonard, enchanting voice, but the way that he sings in this album is totally different at how he sings with Enchant, another Ted’s façade, Haji’s Kitchen musicians drummer Rob Stankiewicz, and the bass player Derek Blakley, great work in this album by these two musicians, they have participated in some other projects; The keyboardist is Bobby Williamson from the Texan band Outworld; Angular Perceptions contains ten songs, three instrumental themes, 56 minutes of progressive metal with different genres, this music is complex and indescribable, they play things only one time, and never repeat it again, there’s a lot of Michael’s solo albums music in this record, but in a progressive vain and with voice, great work, Ted’s voice is brilliant, he sings amazingly, is great that he sings in other band, all the vocalists must have a side band, Rob and Derek are talented musicians, great skills and coordination, Bobby keys work is good, but I likely if Michael and him incorporate keyboards orchestration in the music, it will be awesome.

The band consists of the following:

MICHAEL HARRIS/Guitarist
(ARCH RIVAL, SURGEON, THE MICHAEL HARRIS TRANZ-FUSION)

TED LEONARD/Vocalist
(ENCHANT)

DEREK BLAKLEY/Bassist
(HAJI'S KITCHEN)

Threshold new album "Dead Reckoning"

New album from this long running British prog metal band finds them make the curious jump over to Nuclear Blast - a label not exactly known for signing prog metal bands. Not surprisingly, Dead Reckoning finds the band veering slightly off their normal trajectory. The music is a bit heavier but still firmly prog metal. Dan Swano makes a guest appearance offering death growls - who would have ever figured they would appear on a Threshold disc.

Spheric Universe Experience New Album ANIMA!

Now, S.U.E. has finalized their 2nd effort, “Anima”, which is a strong follow up to the debut, showcasing S.U.E. from their finest side. The album was recorded by Charles Massabo during the summer of 2006 in Coxinhell Studio Studio and Kallaghan Studio in France and was mastered at Jailhouse Studios in Denmark by Tommy Hansen, giving the music of S.U.E. the extra powerful touch that is needed in today’s music market. Artwork was this time around handled by Björn at Killustrations Media in Germany.

The music of Spheric Universe Experience is technical, melodic and possesses a top-notch progressiveness, that can be compared to bands such as Dream Theater, Pain Of Salvation and Fates Warning, but filled with an incredible intensity and an original identity of their own."

Hello, happy 2007 to all!, I just want to let you know that German progmetal band Hydrotoxin is back! after 10 years!, I can tell you this is one of the best things I ever heard, one of our favorite progmetal bands, we have them on our polls! these guys are awesome, incredible feeling, great music, we cant bealive it, we are so happy about this reunion and we wish them all the success they deserve, the only thing I was sad about is that Jioti Parcharidis is not longer in the band and in his place is a girl named Malaika Lehner, I personally dont like female singers on progmetal but let's see what they do this 2007, they are planing new album and tour, all the best!!

About Hydrotoxin:

Hydrotoxin was founded in 1995 by Oliver Hintz, Andreas Kienitz and Mathias Vogel. After a short time they released their first instrumental-album "Door To December" on an own label. After getting their first deal with the dutch record-company Crystal-Entertainment (SPV) they completed the line-up with Olaf Hofmeister (drums) and Jioti Parcharidis (vocals) and released the "cult"-prog-album "oceans", wich get highest resonance from all sides (7 of 7 points in Metal Hammer). Soon they made a small tour with "Threshold", because "Enchant" became "Dream Thaeter"-support overnight. After this, Hydrotoxin made an own tour in germany as a headliner (u.a. Marquee, Huxley's Neue Welt, Hafenbahn, Star Club Oberhausen, etc.).

After the tour some members where thick of band-life and started their solo carreers. Andreas Kienitz made his first "guitar-hero"-concept album, Oliver Hintz became a gold-awarded producer (Me & My, Whigfield, Gloria Gaynor, 2 unlimited), took part at the Eurovision Song Contest for 2 times and started a solo-project where he worked together with the kings of prog "SAGA" (Villa & Gant vs. SAGA-"Wind Him Up"). He also made remixes for the "Scorpions".

After 10 years it is time to relaunche Hydrotoxin. The old members Olaf Hoffmeister, Andreas Kienitz and Oliver Hintz completed the band with Mathias Dittner (bass) and the awarded female singer Malaika Lehner (#1: "Best female singer/alternativ"), who gives HT an angelike touch...
