About Me

I'm "The Professor," Jim Price, and I'm a live music junkie. If a live band or musician is playing around the area, I'm there to check it out. Music is my life...I play it on the radio, I go to see it live, I write about it, I support it!On the radio, I do the afternoon show (2-6 PM) on WBXQ/WBRX "Q94," a classic rock station in Altoona, PA. I also host a local music program called "The Backyard Rocker," which airs two hours of local and regional artists every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM.I write a column called "The Professor Speaks" for "Pennsylvania Musician," a regional music publication based near Harrisburg, PA. I write about music happenings in a six-county area including Blair, Cambria, Centre, Huntingdon, Bedford and Clearfield Counties in west-central PA. I've been writing for "Pennsylvania Musician" since June, 1987.I also am a co-administrator and writer for Rockpage, a local music website based in Altoona, PA. I do weekly recaps of shows I see in the region, and also post occasional CD reviews, commentaries and other wanderings of my sick and demented mind.

My Interests

Live music, photography, writing, the outdoors, hiking, fishing, gardening, wings, pizza, beer, traveling, railfanning, roadtrips, friends, fun!

I'd like to meet:

People who are into music with a passion the way I am. People who are fun-loving, who live each day to its fullest, and who try to make a difference. People who like to like to milk every ounce of sweat and energy out of every day!

Music:

I dig all kinds, as long as it's done well. I lean towards old-school metal, progressive, and blues; but I like it all.

Movies:

The Mad Max trilogy, all Star Wars flicks, all Star Trek flicks, all James Bond flicks, all Monty Python flicks, the Die Hard and Terminator movies, and any good action movies with things getting blown up.

Television:

The Underground Television, Jericho, South Park, Babylon 5, Monty Python's Flying Circus, old Doctor Who and Star Trek episodes, Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Books:

Currently working on "Juniata: River of Sorrows" by Dennis P. McIlnay. My schedule doesn't allow me much reading time, but these days I prefer non-fiction to fiction.

Finally...A Network Television Show Worth Watching

People often ask me how I can find the time to go see all the live bands and musicians that I do.  One obvious answer: I rarely watch nighttime television.  I gave up on the vast wasteland t...

Fishing and Public Service

I had a free Sunday, with no guests scheduled on Q94's "Backyard Rocker" and this week's program "memorexed" and "in the can."  I took advantage of the occasion, and grabbed my fishing rods, tack...
