I am Mark Sunshine, creative person.

I split myself in two eons ago. Throughout my childhood and young adulthood I was seen primarily as a visual artist, one who draws and paints. One day I chose to venture into the performance and eventual creation of music. Today I split my time between both and try to keep my head on straight.
artist - musician(vocalist/composer).

MUSIC-WISE

MY BAND: RIOTGOD
The line-up of this band is:
→SUNSHINE - vocals (******)
→GARRETT SWEENY - Guitars (Psycho Daisy)
→JIM BAGLINO - Bass (Monster Magnet-Ribeye Bros.)
→BOB PANTELLA - drums (Monster Magnet--Atomic Bitchwax-Raging Slab)
The new band has taken the name RiotGod, which yes, used to be my nom de musique for a long while. We have been writing and recording and cannot wait to get out on the road.
At times, I can also be found here at Sluggo's Goon Music. Look for my vocals on the upcoming At War With Self CD by Glenn Snelwar
MarkSunshine.info should be up soon. Been doing a bit of re-web-think.

ART-WISE

I have been published in Roof Magazine(UK),Clamor magazine (RIP), the Village Voice, Sortez La Chienne ( France ) LCD, the magazine of WFMU, Blurred Vision ( Issue #1&3 and the upcoming Issue #4 ), and other assorted independent publications.

MY CONTRIBUTION TO VIDEO GAME HISTORY
Press play: Look in the opening credits! I am so glad Rob ( YogiRob on my friends list ) agreed to place my credit in on the original Montezuma's Revenge, for the simple reason that it will always remind me of those simple,back-in-the-day, creative times and that that version is the best one.

NOT VOTING 4 McCAIN!

Finally, I cannot stand the state that our country is in, how we are viewed in the world and the bastardization of all the principles that at one point made this nation great. Don't get me wrong, I love my country... but some stuff has gotten out of control and we have greedy cruel imbeciles in charge. New national motto.... how about WTF?
..

My Interests

Ableton Live (place current version # here)
Making Mdm. Courvoisier as happy as I can • Enjoying the time with my bandmates, making new music with them •Art • Music • The amount of curiosity in people I choose to be my friends/acquaintances • Reading • Color • Travel • Creativity • Laptop music • Musicians: especially friends of mine that are still "doing it" namely still believing in their music or art • Vocalizing • Drawing • Strange comic art • Tintin • BBC World Service • WNPR • Design • Video • Speed reading at large bookstore chains• My family and friends • Keeping my bottled demons bottled • French ( I am barely trying! I gotta take a class -- parlais vous lentement ce vous plait!)• Winning political campaigns • Seeing Courvoisier for the brief glimpses that I might on TV in the early morning • Trying not to let mania get the best of me • Becoming financially stable ( see making some goddamned money!) • Achieving my own art opening... after experiencing a long period of unfettered time devoted toward making large, colorful, freeform paintings of intense patterns, unworried as to what will become of them or how I shall store them • Owning a swath of land in which to have pets run around while I paint/create in a barn • Shopping for groceries in the slow, meandering way that I do, while Courvoisier pushes me toward the register • Enjoying my self-awareness gained over time. Letting go of possessions without sentimentally obsessing -- so f'n hard!!

Music:

Any creative music that is full of energy -- For the record I am primarily a vocalist, so I dig especially things that I can sing with, vocals that make my own voice work...etc etc...challenge the limits of one's clarity and range, technique or texture.

For those that like to see -- must see examples. Not all bands/music have to pose technical personal "challenges" for me to dig their style. None of these are in order of priority.
David Bowie, Brian Eno, Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan, Judas Priest, The Faction, Killing Joke, Misfits, Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, Diamanda Galas, Alice in Chains, Deep Purple, Voivod, Mr. Bungle, Imogen Heap, Blondie, Mad Professor, Bill Laswell, Belle & Sebastian, Iron Maiden, Lamb of God, Buzzcocks, Fuck the Facts, The Locust, Wagner, Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, Paganini, CSNY, Santana, Morbid Angel, Berserker, Trivium, Carlos Borelle(?), Andre Segovia, Jaco Pastorius, Nick Drake,David Byrne, T-Rex, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Iggy Pop, many forms of Brazilian music ( esp. Virginia Rodrigues!) Philip Glass, Baba Olatunji, Manu Dibango, a lot of music from Mali, though nothing specific, Vietnamese and Chinese glossy pop stylings, US folk music - some - depends, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, weird lounge (various), go-go, Bhangra, Bollywood, Punjabi, Cajun, Chicago (early), 3 Mo' Tenors, UMC's, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, old Chubb Rock, Black Sheep, Machito, Pink Floyd, Sepultura, Harry Nillsson, 8bitcore, Ambient, Electronic: Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Yo-yo Ma, James Taylor, Todd Rundgren, The Who, Ambrosia, Jade Warrior, Strapping Young Lad, Carbon Based Lifeforms, DJ Spooky, DJ Shadow, Dave Matthews, Jane's Addiction (back in the day)
ADDITIONS:UPDATED 11.30.07
Kate Bush, Dickies Ramones, Police(early), Mamas & Papas, Al Stewart, ELP, Agathadaimon, Trevor Horn ( his production -- man do I dig it! )Beatles, Small Faces, MC5, Iggy and the Stooges, Portishead, Chungking, Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Count Basie, Woody Herman, the enormity of Swing, Isaac Hayes, Dead Kennedy's, Pretenders, Dio, Frank Zappa, ELO, ELP, Space Rock, Hawkwind

Movies:

Movies that don't disappoint you when you finish watching them: Blade Runner - Akira - The Shining - Equus - Monty Python (any) - Cool Hand Luke - Neighbors - Slapshot - Midnight Express/Cowboy/Run ( pick one ) - 2001: A Space Odyssey - Planet of the Apes - Silent Running - Little Miss Sunshine - Garden State - Taxi Driver ( most Scorcese ) - V for Vendetta - Star Wars 1 -- Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge -- Minority Report, The Party, Mildred Pierce, Omen (original vrsn,) 28 Days/Weeks Later, Juno, Rushmore, Fish Called Wanda ( memorize John Cleese' inverted apology to Kevin Kline for kicks!) Apocalypse Now, Braveheart, Gladiator, 300, Meatballs, Caddyshack, Animal House

Television:

Very little to remark.I stumble on things I like and most times I can be certain those programs are on PBS. Recent Interest: Carnivale- the canceled HBO Dust Bowl tale. Very nicely spooky.
And that Tim Gunn is a HOOT! His critique of the average unmonitored, unguided, clueless person's wardrobe is priceless.
RIP 6ft. Under.
To most I would be considered a watcher of boring TV. Love I, Claudius., Frontline, Nova.... Keeping Up Appearances. World News Now (in spirit) -- Project Runway -- Adult Swim, Drawn Together, Blue Planet, Orangutan Island, Everest, Human Weapon -- Back in the day: Battle of the Planets, Land of the Lost, Monty Python, The Young Ones, Price is Right-Match Game 77-Card Sharks--game show phase The First 48 , one of the few reality cop docudramatic shows I really enjoy: great editing -- Inspector Morse. On the detective note I really liked the Sherlock Holmes of Jeremy Brett.
NB: My gal/partner in laughter was watching a lot of LOST. If suspension of disbelief could be a frozen meal -- LOST is the most ugly Hungry Man you could ever try.
My gal and I are DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED in regard to individual TV Choice/Taste but do enjoy certain shows: guilty pleasures like Top Chef, John from Cincinnati, Ace of Cakes, most NGEO broadcasts, Dirty Jobs and Deadliest Catch.
Sometimes I get fascinated by tuning into the smartly dressed late night preachers or the overnight, educational classroom stuff they air, which is like "film-strip" TV. The original BBC broadcast of Traffik.
