*************************************************Theodore Roosevelt 1907"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or
birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. .. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
At the point in time when we cease to live in the moment, and instead focus on what lies ahead in the future, it is at this precise fraction of our individual existence that we lose sight of life’s undemanding, everyday pleasures. We exchange the abandonment of our youthful spirit for accountability, and expectations that may or may not be realized. Eyes once filled with joyous bewilderment and timeless fascination, all too soon become vacant and distant, overcrowded with deadlines, bottom lines, and obligations. The simplicity of discovery disappears into a facade of self-serving personal achievement. This transition is commonly referred to as “growing-up†or “adulthoodâ€.
As luck would have it, there are those truly rare “FREE SPIRITS†who somehow manage to escape the inevitable, and remain connected with their inner child, never losing sight of the rewards that materialize with every breath of life. For these individuals wealth, or considering one’s self successful, is defined not by financial portfolios, corporate positions, or by the value of possessions, but instead by the depth of the soul, the capacity of the heart, and the spirit’s awareness to recognize the immeasurable pleasures of nature in all of her magnificence. To lose sight of these qualities is to lose sight of life itself, and condemns the spirit to become complacent with knowing only a shallow existence.
I'm always interested in meeting the "FREE SPIRITS" of life!
