Kasia Juno is a musician and songwriter from Nelson BC. In 2005 completed her second year in the Music program at Selkirk College in Nelson. She majored in composition while taking lessons in guitar, voice and piano. Her music is rooted in a strong foundation of folk infused with jazz, experimental country and lilting gypsy scales.
Kasia Juno was born in South Africa in the midst of a political turmoil and unrest. At the age of thirteen Kasia immigrated to Canada with her family and she started writing songs. Kasia is influenced by the classic song writing giants such as Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, but also by more contemporary musicians such as Veda Hille, Feist, Joanna Newsom and all the incrediably talented songwriters she is blessed to know and call friends. As well as songwriters Kasia is inspired by poets, such as T.S Elliot, Ginsburg, Sylvia Plath, and Adrienne Rich. Her lyrics and harmonies move from being forthright and rhythmic to being subtle and enigmatic. She writes like a painter, hinting at darker tones, while creating arresting, dream like moods with her music.Through the years Kasia has been in a number of choirs and music groups, performing in Nelson's Festival of the Arts and Music Feeds, a Benefit Concert in Trail. She spent a year traveling through New Zealand, Australia and Thailand busking and playing in small venues. Kasia Juno has opened for Vancouver musician Veda Hille and applauded gospel singer, Dee Daniels. After honing her skills for two years at the music school and recording her first album, Gentle Bens Tattoos, Kasia received a grant from the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance funding her debut tour, Dare To Find Me.
Since then Kasia has completed her second tour in BC, (summer 2006), and has returned to university studies. Kasia lives in Montreal where she continues to pursue her passion for music.
